Kathy McMurray Earnst
January 8, 1951 — March 8, 2026
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Kathy McMurray Earnst, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, on March 8, 2026, at the age of 75. Kathy departed this world in the company of loved ones after a sudden pulmonary embolism. Her vibrant spirit and generous heart left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Born on January 8, 1951, in the lively city of Buffalo, New York, Kathy was the beloved daughter of Mary Jane and Richard McMurray. She grew up in a close-knit family that instilled in her the values of kindness, empathy, and resilience. These qualities would guide her throughout her life, both personally and professionally.
After graduating from Front Range Community College in 1976, Kathy embarked on a fulfilling career as a nurse at Kaiser Permanente, where she dedicated 40 years to the care and well-being of her patients. Her colleagues admired her unwavering commitment and gentle bedside manner, and she became a beacon of hope and comfort to countless individuals and families during their times of need.
Kathy's personal life was enriched by her loving marriage to Charles Earnst, who predeceased her, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Together they raised two wonderful daughters, Beth Ridgeway and Melissa Chisholm, who carry forward their mother's compassionate spirit and zest for life. In her later years, Kathy found companionship and joy with her partner, Rich Johnson, who brought happiness and support to her life.
A devoted family woman, Kathy took immense pride in her role as a grandmother to five beautiful grandchildren. Her granddaughters, Kailyn and Alayna Ridgeway, were the light of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Though her grandson Asher Ridgeway predeceased her, his memory remained a treasured part of her heart.
Kathy's love for her family extended to her siblings, Dan McMurray and Deanna Largent, who survive her. Their bond was unbreakable, and she was a guiding force in their lives, offering wisdom, laughter, and unwavering support.
Beyond her professional and familial roles, Kathy found joy in traveling and gardening. She delighted in exploring new places, cultures, and cuisines, often accompanied by her family and friends. Her garden was a testament to her nurturing spirit, filled with vibrant flowers and lush greenery that reflected her love for nature and beauty.
Kathy's passing leaves a void that can never be filled, but her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who loved her. She will be remembered for her kindness, warmth, and the way she made everyone feel valued and heard. In honoring her memory, let us carry forward her legacy of love, compassion, and joy.
A celebration of Kathy's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to share stories and remember the extraordinary woman she was. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity supporting pulmonary health, a cause close to Kathy's heart.
Rest in peace, dear Kathy. You will be dearly missed, but your spirit will forever shine in our hearts.
