Kathryn Towns
February 12, 1942 — May 11, 2026
It is with a profound sense of loss and a deep appreciation for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Kathryn Towns, who departed this world on May 11, 2026. Kathryn, a beloved mother, wife, friend, and mentor, passed away in her sleep, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. Kathryn was born on February 12, 1942, in the burrows of New York to her cherished parents, William and Ernestine Towns, who preceded her in death.
Kathryn's life was a testament to the strength of character and the warmth of spirit. After graduating from James Madison High School in 1960, she began a career that would impact countless young lives. For three decades, she worked as a devoted tutor and after-school caregiver, nurturing and guiding the youth in her hometown of Brooklyn, New York, and later in Dallas, Texas. Her dedication to the growth and development of the children she mentored was unwavering. Kathryn eventually retired to become a full-time, loving mother, focusing her boundless energy on raising her two daughters, Kemicha Royal and Beatrice Towns, who survive her and carry forward her legacy.
On July 24, 1981, Kathryn found her soulmate and embarked on a beautiful journey of marriage that lasted 42 years. Together, they lived in New York, embraced the island life in Hawaii, and finally settled in Texas, creating a home filled with love and light. Her marriage was a testament to the power of love and partnership, and the joy they found in each other was reflected in the warmth of their family.
Kathryn was a woman of deep faith, a long-standing and active member of the College Hill Church of God and Christ, where she served and sang with the choir for 41 years. Her devotion to her faith was evident not only in her involvement with the church but also in the way she lived her life—with sincerity, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to spreading joy. Music was her sanctuary, and her voice was a blessing to all who heard it.
A lifelong learner, Kathryn found solace in the pages of books, spending countless hours on her porch with a book in hand, ever curious and eager to explore new worlds through literature. She was known for her radiant smile and the way she made those around her feel cherished and valued. Her generosity knew no bounds, and her thoughtful gifts, even as simple as a $20 bill and a heartfelt card, were a testament to her love and thoughtfulness.
A service to celebrate Kathryn's life will be held on May 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the College Hill Church of God and Christ, located at 6414 N 30th St, Tampa, FL 33610. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone whose life Kathryn touched, and thanks them for their support and love in commemorating the life of a truly remarkable woman.
May Kathryn’s memory be a blessing to us all, and may her spirit continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
