Kathryn and Lyle began their journey in Kansas, farming for several years before relocating to Ft. Collins, Colorado. There, Kathryn became a cherished member of the Christ United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and was active in the United Methodist Women group. Kathryn espcially looked forward to football season when she could watch football games non-stop from morning until evening.
