October 24, 1953 — October 12, 2026

Kathryn C. Parsons, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2026, at Cedar Health and Rehab after a long and courageous battle with dementia. Born on October 24, 1953, in Artesia, New Mexico, Kathryn was the cherished daughter of the late Billie Jean Soderberg (Wall) and Archie P. Lewis. She was predeceased by her loving parents, as well as her sisters, Barbara Lewis and Teresa Elaine Lambert, and many dear aunts and uncles. Kathryn is survived by her devoted daughter, Kelli Barnes, her son-in-law, Brian, and her treasured grandsons, Gavin and Alexander Barnes. She also leaves behind her ex-husband, Edward Parsons, with whom she shared the joy of raising their daughter. A graduate of Artesia High School in 1971, Kathryn pursued further education in accounting, which led to a fulfilling career in the Revenue Department at Yates Petroleum Corp. Her talents were not just professional; she also created exquisite floral arrangements, delighting many with her artistry. Known for her vibrant spirit, Kathryn was a supportive supervisor and team player who brought laughter and joy to her workplace. Her colleagues remember her as a jokester with a serious commitment to integrity and excellence, forming friendships that lasted decades. Kathryn was a valued member of the Trinity Temple Assembly of God church and the Elks Lodge, engaging in her community with warmth and generosity. She had a passion for travel, cherishing her visits to friends and family across the country. In 2011, she fulfilled a lifelong dream by traveling to Italy with her daughter, a journey that left an indelible mark on her heart. Her hobbies included reading, completing crossword puzzles, and sending unique, humorous cards to loved ones on special occasions. Kathryn was a kind and giving soul who never met a stranger. Her infectious laughter and willingness to dress in silly ways or dance spontaneously ensured she left everyone she met with a smile on their face. Kathryn's family and friends will gather to celebrate her life on October 24, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Trinity Temple Assembly of God, located at 1507 West Hermosa Drive, Artesia, NM 88210. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to a charity of choice, honoring Kathryn's legacy of kindness and generosity. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Cedar Health and Rehab for their compassionate care over the past two years, and to Mission Hospice for ensuring her comfort in her final days. Special thanks are also extended to all friends and family who provided support throughout the years. As Maya Angelou beautifully said, "They may forget your name, but they will never forget how you made them feel." Kathryn's legacy of love and laughter will forever be remembered and cherished.
