Kathleen Thompson

January 8, 1961 — September 11, 2026

Kathleen Thompson (Kate), a beloved partner, mother, sister, and friend, passed away on September 11, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on January 8, 1961, in Ashland, Massachusetts, Kate was the cherished daughter of Kay and Robert Mahoney. She was predeceased by her devoted parents and her dear sister, Patricia Mahoney. Kate's life was a testament to kindness, love, and the simple joys of life. From an early age, she was known for her innate ability to care deeply for others. This was not a learned trait but rather a natural extension of her generous spirit. Her heart knew no bounds, and she loved fiercely, a quality that endeared her to all who knew her. A graduate with a barber’s license from Rob Roy Academy in Worcester, Massachusetts, Kate initially worked as a waitress. She later found fulfillment in her roles at Bowdoin College and the Center Store in Phippsburg, Maine. Kate was not just a colleague but a friend to many, always offering a warm smile and a listening ear. Her love for nature and animals was profound, and she could often be found walking along the beach, book in hand, reveling in the beauty of the natural world. Kate’s passion for literature was matched only by her love for her family. She was an "old soul," finding joy in the quiet moments spent with those she cherished most. Kate leaves behind her devoted partner, Dwight Holbrook; her sons, Ian and Michael Thompson; her loving daughter-in-law, Jessica Thompson; and her cherished friend, Jess Thompson. Her four grandchildren Tyler Harding, Shamus Thompson, Shilee Thompson, Kaley Edgar, and three great-grandchildren will forever remember her as their guiding light. Kate is also survived by her sisters, Nancy Mcshea, Linda Miller, Judy De la Flor, Susan Mendillo who will carry her memory in their hearts. A service to celebrate Kate's life will be held at Desmond Funeral Home in Bath, Maine, on September 20, 2026, at Family and friends are invited to come together to honor her legacy and offer their final farewells. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Humane World for Animals Inc., based in Washington, DC, in Kate's memory. This organization reflects Kate's deep love for animals and her enduring commitment to their welfare. As the family mourns her passing, they find solace in the words of Matthew 11:28: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." Kate's spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched, and her memory will be a source of comfort and inspiration for years to come.
