Kathleen Castronovo August 1, 1943 – July 22, 2026 Kathleen Castronovo, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2026, surrounded by her family and extended family at Alpine Fireside. Born on August 1, 1943, in Rockford, Illinois, to Harry and Josephine (Cecchinelli) Liberatori, Kathleen, known fondly as Kathy, lived a life full of warmth, laughter, and love. Kathy's early years in Rockford were filled with joy and family. She graduated from West High School, setting the stage for a life characterized by her strong work ethic and passion for people. In 1960, she married Vince Castronovo, building a wonderful life together and raising two children, Kimberly and Greg. Their family was blessed with the addition of three grandchildren—Jessica, Kate, and Megan—and later, four great-grandchildren—James, Claire, Will, and Madeline. Professionally, Kathy began her career as a beautician, working alongside her husband Vince, before transitioning into the banking industry. Her years in banking were marked by her dedication and enthusiasm, leaving a lasting impression on colleagues and clients alike. She was a mentor and friend to many, forming relationships that lasted well into her retirement. After retiring, she continued to work on a limited basis with her dear friend Lucia Hauge at an Insurance Agency. An active member of the Venetian Club of Rockford, Kathy was a cherished participant in the club's Bocce League, where she enjoyed the camaraderie of her lifelong friends. Her volunteer work at St. Anthony Medical Center further exemplified her generous spirit and commitment to her community. Kathy's love for her family was unsurpassed. She relished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as her special friends. Known for her sharp wit and warm smile, Kathy could light up a room and was always the first to welcome others into her home. Her dynamic cooking skills and passion for the kitchen will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of sharing a meal with her. Predeceased by her parents, sister Beverly, brother Richard, and husband Vince, Kathy leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness. She is survived by her daughter Kimberly (William) Flynn, son Greg (Lynette) Castronovo, grandchildren Jessica (Kris) Price, Kate Corl, and Megan (Brian) Forsberg, and great-grandchildren James, Claire, Will, and Madeline. She also leaves behind several nephews, nieces, cousins, and dear friends Kris Wells, Sylvia Wagner, and Aisha Kamal, who offered unwavering support over the years. Our family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at Alpine Fireside for their compassionate care, especially Fiona Okoroti, DNP, Aisha Kamal & the entire PT staff, and all the nurses and OSF Hospice. Your dedication and kindness brought comfort to Kathy and her family during her final days. Kathy's spirit of generosity and love will live on through the lives she touched and the memories she created. Kathy's joy for life, her laughter, and her ability to make strangers feel like family will be cherished forever. She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
