With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Kathleen Ann Petersen, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, on March 23, 2026. Kathleen departed this world enveloped in the warmth and love of her family, in the comfort of her home, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, and unwavering strength. Born on December 4, 1945, in Elmhurst, Illinois, to parents Edward Rohn, II and Katherine Brennan, Kathleen was a beacon of light from the very beginning. She was raised in a household filled with love and laughter, alongside her siblings, Edward J. Rohn, III, and Nancy Van Marm. Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents and her dear sister, Susan nee Rohn Groden, whose memories she cherished deeply. Kathleen's life was a testament to the power of love and dedication. On June 14, 1969, she married the love of her life, Ronald "Ron" Petersen, at the Freedom Lutheran Church in LaSalle County, IL. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with adventures, laughter, and shared dreams. Their enduring love was an inspiration to all who knew them, a partnership marked by strength and devotion. Kathleen was a proud and nurturing mother to her two sons, William and Robert Petersen, who were the joys of her life. She found immense happiness in watching them grow into kind, compassionate men. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren, Garrett, Max, and Margaret, who brought her immeasurable joy and pride. Kathleen's professional journey was marked by her dedication to service and education. She began her career as a teacher in the Rutland School District, where she touched countless young lives with her warmth and wisdom. Later, she embraced a new path as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), providing empathy and care to those in need. Beyond her professional life, Kathleen was a devoted member of her community. She was an active participant in the Lions Club, where she worked tirelessly to make a positive impact. Her passion for helping others extended globally through her involvement with I Care International, delivering eyeglasses to those who might otherwise go without. Kathleen found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially in the beauty of nature. She loved traveling and embarking on road trips, often seeking solace in the gentle embrace of wildlife along the Fox River. These moments of tranquility were a testament to her deep appreciation for the world around her. In accordance with Kathleen's wishes, a private ceremony will be held to honor her life and legacy. While the service will be intimate, her family invites all who knew her to celebrate her life by remembering the joy she brought into the world and the love she shared so freely. Kathleen Ann Petersen's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and unwavering faith in the goodness of others. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Kathleen's memory to the Lions Club or I Care International, causes that were close to her heart.
