In Loving Memory

Katherine Parker (Kathy)
June 19, 1973 — April 3, 2026
It is with profound sadness and hearts full of cherished memories that we announce the passing of Katherine Parker, affectionately known to many as Kathy, on April 3, 2026. Born on June 19, 1973, in Georgetown, Kentucky, Kathy graced the world with her warmth, generosity, and unyielding compassion for 52 wonderful years.
Kathy was the beloved daughter of Robert E. Lee Parker (Bob) and Mary Ruth Parker. She was preceded in death by her father, Bob, as well as her grandparents, Charles and Ruby Parker, and Al and Eliza Lee Williams. Kathy’s life was also touched by the loss of her dear aunt, Faye Marshall, Sally Kitchen, Molly Carroll, and uncles Harold Marshall, Leon (Sonny) Parker, and Johnny Kitchen. Despite these losses, Kathy's spirit remained resilient and full of grace.
Kathy is survived by her loving mother, Mary Ruth, her devoted brother, Rob Parker, and her adored nieces and nephews, Missy and Carson Parker, and Mackenzie, Tyler, and Taylen Hayden. Her life was also blessed with the unwavering companionship of her best friend, Brooklynn Dan'elle Sluder, who stood by her side through every season of life.
Kathy's educational journey was one of dedication and passion. She graduated from Scott County High School in 1991, and her pursuit of knowledge led her to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Kentucky University in 1995. Her commitment to helping others was further reflected in her Associate Degree in Health Science from Greenville Technical College in 2005, with a specialization in Early Childhood Education.
For 19 years, Kathy worked as an Early Interventionist and Case Manager at Thrive Upstate, where she dedicated her life to working with children and families with special needs and disabilities. Her ability to connect with children, especially those with Autism, was nothing short of a gift. Kathy’s work was not just a career; it was a calling, one where she consistently went above and beyond for the families she served.
Beyond her professional achievements, Kathy's life was enriched with hobbies and interests that brought her immense joy. She spent countless afternoons walking her beloved dog, Berkeley, in the park. Her love for woodworking, particularly making rings, was a testament to her creativity and attention to detail. Kathy was a fervent fan of Kentucky Men's and Women's Basketball Team and the University of South Carolina Women's Basketball Team. Her adventurous spirit led her to explore hiking trails, tennis courts, golf courses, and travel destinations like Aruba and Boston.
Kathy’s kindness and generosity left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered. She was a compassionate listener, always eager to hear others’ stories and offer wise and caring advice. Her ability to uplift and support those around her was a hallmark of her character.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Upstate Community Hospice House-Agape Care, located at 260 Fairwinds Dr. Landrum SC 29356, and Rebekah's Angels. Contributions can also be made to The Kathy Parker Fund, ensuring her legacy of care and compassion continues to touch lives.
Kathy's Kentucky family, including the Poer, Dunn, Wize, Popp, Juett, Parker, Singletary, Kitchen, Riggs, Creamans, Hamm, Carroll, and Williams families, and her South Carolina family, comprising the Sluder, Brown, Fitzgerald, Jenkins, Wilson, Huckins, Smith, Tippett, Barrett, and Lockey families, remember her as a beacon of love and strength.
As we bid farewell to a remarkable soul, we hold Kathy's memory close, comforted by the knowledge that her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she loved and those who loved her. Her life was a testament to the beauty of kindness, and she will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
