Katherine Lavon Goodwin Myres, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2026, in her hometown of Brookhaven, MS, at the age of 72. Born on January 29, 1954, to George and Mary Goodwin, Katherine's life was a testament to love, laughter, and compassion. Katherine was a cherished member of the Brookhaven community, having graduated from Brookhaven High School in 1965. She spent 25 devoted years working at Memorial Hospital in Jackson, MS, where she was known for her kindness and dedication to those in her care. Her infectious laugh and radiant smile lit up every room she entered. Katherine had a unique gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued. She was always ready with a joke or a game of spades, creating an atmosphere of joy and camaraderie among her friends and family. Her kitchen was often filled with the sounds of laughter and the comforting aroma of her cooking, as she loved nothing more than spending time surrounded by those she loved. Katherine is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Edward James Myres. Her legacy lives on through her son, Walter Lee Myers; her daughter, Christina Jackson and her husband Harold; her stepdaughter, Melissa Murphy and her husband Donald; and her stepson, Charles Myers and his wife Vicky. Katherine was a proud grandmother to ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy. She was predeceased by her brother, Edward James Holt, and her sister, Sheika Mae Johnson. A service to celebrate Katherine's life will be held on August 30, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Friendship M.B. Church, located at 1509 E. Friendship Lane N.E., Brookhaven, MS 39601. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations to a charity of your choice, reflecting Katherine's spirit of generosity and care for others. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care during Katherine's final days. She will be forever in our hearts, remembered for the love and laughter she so freely shared.
