In Loving Memory

Katherine Johnson
May 10, 1946 — March 28, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Katherine Johnson, who left this world on March 28, 2026, at the age of 69. Katherine's remarkable journey began on May 10, 1956, in Tyler, TX, where she was born to the late Augustine and Lonnie Johnson. She faced her final days with the same courage and dignity that marked her life, leaving behind a rich legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Katherine was the devoted wife of the late James Dupoint, with whom she shared a beautiful union for 35 years. They were married on February 6, 1976, in Dallas, TX, and together, they built a life filled with love, humor, and a deep commitment to their family. Their bond was a testament to the power of love, raising three wonderful children who were the center of their universe.
A nurturing and supportive presence, Katherine was known for her quick wit and sense of humor. Her laughter was infectious, and her heart was always open to helping others. She was a devoted mother who never missed an event, always cheering loudly from the sidelines and offering a comforting embrace when needed. Her children, Jayla and James Johnson Jr, carry forward her legacy of love and compassion.
Katherine's grandchildren—Keylon, Khiana, Karl, Naomi, and Dynasty—were the apples of her eye. She was a well-loved grandmother whom her grandchildren idolized, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Her nurturing spirit and playful nature made her a pillar of strength and joy in their lives.
Gardening was a cherished passion for Katherine. She spent countless hours tending to her fruits and vegetables, finding peace and fulfillment in the simple beauty of nature. Her garden was a reflection of her nurturing spirit, always blooming and providing for those she loved.
Katherine was predeceased by her beloved husband James, her parents Augustine and Lonnie, her sister Lanette Forrest, her brothers Earl and Lewis Johnson, and her daughter Annette Johnson. Her passing leaves a profound void in the lives of her surviving family members, including her children Jayla and James Jr, and her precious grandchildren.
A celebration of Katherine's life will be held on April 4, 2026, at 9:30 am at Karnack Baptist Church, located at 902 Old 134 Rd, Karnack, TX 75661. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Katherine are invited to gather in remembrance of a life lived with grace, love, and unyielding kindness.
As we say goodbye to Katherine, we hold on to the memories of her vibrant spirit, her laughter, and the love she so freely shared. Her legacy will continue to inspire and uplift those who were fortunate enough to know her. Rest in peace, dear Katherine, in the garden of heaven, where your heart will forever bloom.
