It is with heartfelt sorrow yet profound gratitude for a life beautifully lived that we announce the passing of Katherine Jo Hess, who departed this world on April 1, 2026, at the age of 95. Born on January 14, 1931, Katherine, affectionately known as Kathy, lived a life filled with love, adventure, and unwavering faith. Kathy was born and raised in rural Texas, where she developed a deep appreciation for family values and community spirit. She often reminisced about her cherished childhood memories, particularly the Saturday trips with her family to the local Dairy Queen, a ritual that involved savoring chili dogs and connecting with neighbors. These early experiences shaped her into a woman whose kindness and generosity left a lasting mark on everyone she encountered. In Pampa, Texas, Kathy met the love of her life, Elbre "Glenn" Hess. Their marriage spanned over 60 years, a testament to their enduring love and partnership. Together, they raised two children, Debra Jo Hess and Bart Glenn Hess, who were the pride and joy of their lives. Kathy’s nurturing spirit and dedication to her family were evident in every aspect of her life. Though she did not complete her college degree, Kathy’s intellect and curiosity were unmatched. Her most significant career was as a full-time mother and spouse, supporting Glenn as they moved across the country for his career, living in 15 different states. In each new place, Kathy made an indelible impact with her gentle kindness, strong faith, and commitment to community. In the 1990s, Kathy accompanied Glenn on his worldwide travels with the Cleveland Clinic, an unusual and cherished opportunity that allowed them to explore the globe together. Kathy’s talents extended beyond her role as a devoted wife and mother. She was a phenomenal baker, known for her "melt in your mouth" treats that delighted family, friends, and church members alike. Her creativity also shone through in her sewing, crafting beautiful stuffed animals for her grandchildren, who adored her for her warmth and ingenuity. After settling in Rocky River, Kathy and Glenn became active members of the Rocky River United Methodist Church. Their contributions to the church community were significant, and they formed lasting friendships through their volunteer work. Kathy’s gentle spirit and strong convictions were a source of inspiration to all who knew her. Kathy is survived by her beloved children, Debra Jo Hess (Erik Marrero) and Bart Hess (Teresa Kostisak); her cherished grandchildren, Jason and Kristina Marrero, Lauren and Chris Hess; and five adored great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Glenn Hess, in 2010, and her loving parents. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the Rocky River United Methodist Church and Sheri Swartz for their unwavering support and kindness over the years. Special thanks also go to the Welsh Home, which provided a loving second home for Kathy. In honor of Kathy’s life, a private funeral service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Rocky River United Methodist Church at www.rrumc.org. Kathy’s gentle love and profound strength touched many lives, and her legacy of warmth and compassion will be cherished forever. She leaves behind a family and community that will strive to emulate her kindness and grace.
