Katherine Davis Lefler

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Katherine Davis Lefler, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, who departed this life on September 9, 2026. Katherine was born on March 9, 1938, in Charlotte, North Carolina, to Stephen Webb Davis and Kate Jones Davis. She passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family.
Katherine's life was a testament to love, education, and service. She was married to Dr. Wade Hampton Lefler on April 1, 1961, at the First Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville, NC, and together they created a beautiful family. She is survived by her devoted husband, Wade, and her dear children, Ashley Lefler Wilson and Kirsten Lefler Ririe. Katherine was a proud grandmother to Katherine Ririe Heath, Caroline Ririe, Wade Wilson, Charlotte Ririe, and Eleanor Wilson, and she cherished her great-grandchild, Hadley Heath.
Katherine's early education took her to the National Cathedral School for Girls in Washington, D.C., where she graduated in 1956. She began her college journey at Hollins College in Roanoke, Virginia, and later graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1960 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. With a passion for nurturing young minds, she worked as a 7th and 8th grade teacher at Waughtown Junior High School in Winston-Salem, NC.
Her life was one of service and dedication. Katherine was an active and faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hickory, NC, where she served as a Sunday school teacher. Her commitment to her community was evident through her involvement with Bible Study Fellowship, Meals on Wheels, and the Hickory Service League. She was a dedicated volunteer, offering her time and talents to those in need, including participating in multiple medical missionary trips to Africa and Mexico.
Katherine's love for literature was boundless, and she was an avid reader. She was a cherished member of The Belle and Book Club and the Kindred Spirits Book Club, where she shared her love for stories and the joy of reading. Her passion for the ocean was equally profound, finding peace in beach-combing and swimming.
Katherine is predeceased by her beloved parents, Stephen and Kate Davis. Though she has left this world, her spirit and legacy of kindness, love, and service will continue to inspire all who knew her.
A celebration of Katherine's life will be held on September 17, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Arbor Acres. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Arbor Acres Resident Assistant Fund in Winston-Salem, NC, to honor Katherine's commitment to community and service.
Katherine Davis Lefler will be remembered for her warmth, her unwavering faith, and her dedication to family and community. She leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that will continue to touch the hearts of many.
