Karlheinz Schwabe

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Karlheinz Schwabe, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who departed this world peacefully on July 29, 2026, at the age of 91. Karlheinz was born on November 13, 1934, in Eydtkau, East Prussia, to his loving parents Fritz and Frieda Schwabe, who predeceased him along with his sister, Edeltraud, and brother, Manfred. Karlheinz immigrated to Canada in 1956, carrying with him dreams of a new life and a heart full of hope. It was in Canada that he met and married the love of his life, Rosemarie Heberlein, in August 1961. Together, they built a beautiful life and shared 61 wonderful years of marriage until Rosemarie's passing in 2024. A visionary in the food services industry, Karlheinz began his career at Pinders Drug Store in Regina, Saskatchewan. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to partner and eventually establish his own successful catering company, serving Sask Tel, the Sask Government Building, and City Hall. His work was not just a career but a testament to his dedication, creativity, and work ethic. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Karlheinz was a man of many talents and passions. He had a particular flair for calligraphy, and his artistic touch was evident in the elegant signs he crafted at work. But perhaps more than his skills and achievements, it was his kindness and generosity that left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He had a unique ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued, touching countless lives with his warmth. Karlheinz's legacy lives on through his three children: Sonja (George Idema) and their four daughters Kirstin, Bethany, Melanie (Cole), and Heidi; Markus (Karen) and their children Alexandra (Marc-Andre) with their children Laurent, Julien, and Noami, Katarina (Peter Moutsatsos) with their children Stavros and Penelope, Nicholas, and Gabrielle; and Andreas (Caroline). He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren and a great-grandfather to five great-grandchildren. A service to honor Karlheinz's life will be held on February 6, 1208, at Bethel Funeral Home, located at 5605 27th Street, Vernon, BC. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at the Vernon Hospice House for their compassionate care during Karlheinz's final days. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Karlheinz may be made to Lutheran Missions, reflecting his commitment to his faith and community. Karlheinz Schwabe's life was a testament to love, resilience, and kindness. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know him. His spirit will continue to inspire those who carry forward his legacy of love and generosity.
