Karla Jean Herdman
February 17, 1950 — June 11, 2026
Karla Jean Herdman, a beacon of kindness and warmth, passed away peacefully at her home on June 11, 2026, at the age of 76. Born on February 17, 1950, in Bremerton, Washington, Karla lived a life rich in love and dedication, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Karla was the beloved daughter of Bill and Marlie Plummer, who predeceased her, but their spirit and values lived on through her every action. She grew up in Bremerton, where she graduated from West High School in 1969. Her sparkling smile and ability to make anyone feel welcome were traits she carried with her throughout her life.
On March 25, 1972, Karla married the love of her life, Rick Herdman. Together, they celebrated 54 years of marriage, nurturing a loving family and building a home filled with joy and laughter. Karla and Rick were blessed with four children: Tad Herdman and his wife Amy, Eli Herdman and his wife Shannon, Adam Herdman and his wife Haylee, and Hannah Robbins and her husband Dylan. Her legacy continues through her nine cherished grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
Karla dedicated 30 years of her professional life to the Central Kitsap School District as a para educator. Her colleagues and the countless students she inspired remember her fondly for her unwavering patience, compassion, and dedication to education.
Her passions extended beyond her professional life. Karla found joy in the simple pleasures: cooking delicious meals, camping under the stars, sewing intricate creations, and hunting for antiques. She cherished moments spent over a cup of coffee with friends and, above all, treasured every moment with her family.
Karla's ability to connect with others, her radiant smile, and her generous spirit were hallmarks of her character. She could spark a conversation with anyone, leaving them feeling seen, heard, and loved. Her home was a haven for family gatherings, and her presence was a source of comfort and joy.
The family would like to invite all those who knew and loved Karla to join them in a celebration of her life on July 24, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Kitsap Golf & Country Club, located at 3885 NW Golf Club Hill Rd, Bremerton, WA 98312. In honor of Karla’s vibrant spirit, the family encourages attendees to share their fondest memories and stories.
Karla Jean Herdman's life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and community. As we say farewell, we celebrate a life well-lived, a life that touched many, and a light that will never be extinguished in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
