Karl Clawson
September 29, 1958 — May 28, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Karl Clawson on May 28, 2026, at the age of 67. Born in Greenwood, Indiana, on September 29, 1958, Karl's journey through life was one marked by love, dedication, and an unyielding spirit that touched the hearts of all who knew him.
Karl was the cherished son of Dan and Ruth Clawson, who preceded him in death, along with his beloved sister, Susan, brother, Russell, and brother-in-law, Bill. Though he faced the profound loss of family, Karl found immense joy and strength in those who survive him: his devoted wife, Ann, with whom he shared 29 beautiful years of marriage; his loving children, Claire Hervey (Mark) and Sam Clawson (Lydia); and his stepdaughter, Jill Bennett (Lauren Neal). Karl's legacy lives on through his two adored grandchildren, who brought him endless joy and pride.
A graduate of Greenwood Community High School's Class of 1976, Karl cherished his roots and carried the values instilled in him by his community and family throughout his life. He found his professional calling at Clawson Communications, where he rose to the position of Senior Vice President of Operations. Working alongside his father and siblings, Karl helped build a family business that thrived on their collective dedication and passion for telecommunications.
Karl's passions extended beyond his career. He was an avid fisherman, a pursuit that brought him immense happiness and tranquility. From the smallest creek to the vast expanse of the ocean, Karl cast his line with joy and anticipation, never failing to smile at the prospect of a new catch. His most legendary feat was reeling in a 1,001-pound halibut in Alaska, a story that became part of his rich tapestry of anecdotes and adventures.
A man of many talents, Karl was the quintessential handyman. His philosophy of "if I can't fix it, I'll pay someone who can" spoke to his practical yet humble approach to life's challenges. As he grew older, he discovered a new passion for woodworking, crafting exquisite pieces from horse head carvings to driftwood ducks, and transforming wooden skis into deck chairs. These creations, infused with love and meticulous attention to detail, became cherished gifts for his family.
Karl was a man whose heart was as expansive as his interests. Known for making everyone feel like the most important person in the room, he was a masterful storyteller who infused every conversation with meaning and warmth. He was a devoted father, always present in his children's lives, and never missed an opportunity to express his pride in their accomplishments. His love for Ann was a testament to the depth of his character, as he frequently reminded her through love letters, spontaneous kitchen dances, and intimate porch conversations of how much she meant to him.
Though Karl fought a strong but brief battle with adenocarcinoma, he did so with the same courage and grace that defined his life. Surrounded by his loving family, he departed this world peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and cherished memories that will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew him.
A private funeral ceremony will be held to honor Karl's life, as per his wishes. In lieu of flowers, the family invites those who wish to honor Karl's memory to consider a donation to a charity of their choice, reflecting Karl's generous spirit and lifelong commitment to helping others.
Karl Clawson will be remembered not only for the life he lived but for the love he gave, the stories he shared, and the legacy he leaves behind. He has woven an indelible thread into the fabric of our lives, and his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us as we navigate the world without him.
