In Loving Memory of Karl Bangert It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Karl Bangert on July 8, 2026, at the age of 96. Born on May 11, 1930, in Millstadt, Illinois, Karl was a cherished son to Harry and Viola (Ola) Bangert. He was preceded in death by his first wife Nanette Bangert née Sandlin, his parents Harry and Viola Bangert, and his brothers, James Bangert and Harry Jr. (Tony) Bangert, with whom he shared a close bond. Karl's journey in life was marked by love, service, and dedication. He attended Belleville Township High School, after which he enlisted in the United States Navy during the Korean War, where he spent his time aboard an aircraft carrier. After his military service, Karl embarked on a long and fulfilling career with George Weis Plastering Company. As a skilled plasterer, he was a proud member of the Plasterers and Cement Finishers Local 90, remaining an active participant for 70 years. His work was a testament to his dedication and craftsmanship, leaving a lasting impression on buildings and people alike. Karl was a member of the Millstadt Fire Department, the VFW, and the American Legion, where he connected with many who shared his commitment to community and service. His involvement in these organizations was a reflection of his unwavering dedication to the well-being of others. Beyond his professional and community contributions, Karl found joy in life's simple pleasures. Whether he was fishing, playing cards with his poker buddies, or tending to his small garden, and a wood carver And member of the Midwest Wood Carver. Karl's legacy is carried forward by his beloved wife, Dorothy Bangert née Jablonski, and his children: Michael (Karen) Bangert, Karla (David) Howard, Mary Elizabeth Grau, and Lori Lynn Clark. He also leaves behind his cherished stepdaughters, Debbie Hull, Patti Boeckmann, and Joan (Greg) Keltner. His memory will live on in the hearts of his grandchildren: David Paul Howard, Julie Collins, Jennifer (Steve) Swiney, Heather (Jordon) Christie, Clarissa Austin Wilson, Zack Clark, Jason (Amy) Grau, Jacob Grau, Joseph (Brooke) Grau, Andrew Ehret, Amy Ehret, Katie (Michael) Huffman, Blair Keltner (TJ Tennison), Hillary Keltner (Quinn Martinez), and Riley Keltner. Karl's family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Holly Brooke and the hospice nurses, Nicole and Michele, as well as VA caregiver Paula, for their kind and compassionate care during Karl's final days. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Karl's name to a charity of your choice, reflecting his spirit of giving and love for his community. Karl Bangert's life was a testament to love, service, and dedication. His warmth, humor, and kindness touched all who knew him. As we say goodbye, we celebrate a life well-lived, forever grateful for the moments shared and the memories created. May he rest in peace, knowing he was profoundly loved.
