In loving memory of Karin Claudia Romilly, who passed away peacefully on September 15, 2026, embraced by the love and warmth of her family and friends at the Doug and Fran MacDonald Langley Hospice. Karin faced a courageous battle with bile duct cancer for three and a half months, demonstrating her strength and grace until the very end. Born on January 31, 1953, in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, to the late Michael and Elisabeth Hauser, Karin was a beacon of joy and kindness. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, but her spirit lives on through her devoted husband, Douglas Paul Romilly. Karin and Douglas shared an extraordinary life together, filled with love, adventure, and laughter. They married on August 30, 1980, in Waterloo, Ontario, and celebrated 46 wonderful years of marriage. Their journey together was marked by countless adventures in RV travel, sailing, skiing, and a deep, abiding love. Karin's academic journey led her to Wilfrid Laurier University, where she earned a BA degree in Languages, specializing in German and French. Her studies took her to Germany, enriching her understanding of language and culture. It was in Waterloo that she met Douglas, who was pursuing his BASc and PhD in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Waterloo. Karin's professional life was as varied and vibrant as her personal one. She began her career as a server, earning accolades for her exceptional service at Swiss Chalet in Waterloo. Her career path took her to Air Canada as a ground attendant in London, Ontario, and later to Magnassen Furniture as a secretary. After moving to British Columbia in 1984, she dedicated her career to BC Hydro's Gas Division, later known as FortisBC, until her retirement on May 31, 2023. Karin was a cherished colleague, known for her diligent work and wonderful contributions to the company's social committee, which brought joy and camaraderie to many. Karin was an active member of her community, particularly through her involvement with the Langley Power and Sail Squadron and the Fraser Valley Orchid Society. Her passions included skiing, sailing, cruising, golfing, and nurturing her beloved orchids. She was the go-to person for her colleagues when their orchids needed care, reflecting her nurturing spirit and willingness to help. Karin's life was a testament to her generous and warm nature. She welcomed everyone with a radiant smile and had a unique ability to make others feel cherished. Her kindness and generosity left an indelible mark on all who knew her. In honor of Karin's memory, donations can be made to the BC Cancer Foundation. Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Langley Memorial Hospital, St. Paul's Hospital, the BC Cancer Clinic in Abbotsford, and the compassionate team at the Doug and Fran MacDonald Langley Hospice for their exceptional care during Karin's battle with cancer. It was Karin's wish to be cremated and her ashes scattered at sea. A future celebration of life ceremony is currently being planned, so sign the guest book if you would like to be notified of the event. Karin Claudia Romilly's life was a beautiful tapestry of love, adventure, and kindness. She will be dearly missed but forever remembered by her husband and all of those who were fortunate to know her.
