Karen Sue Lake
March 25, 1958 — April 4, 2026
It is with deep sorrow and love that we announce the passing of Karen Sue Lake, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many. Karen left us on April 4, 2026, at the age of 68 after a courageous battle with leukemia. Her journey began on March 25, 1958, in Anchorage, Alaska, where she was born to Rosritha and Craig Stinsacker. She now joins her father, Craig, in eternal peace.
Karen's life was a tapestry of love, compassion, and dedication. She spent her early years in Anchorage, before moving to Washington, where she graduated from Puyallup High School. Her life took a beautiful turn when she met and married her beloved husband, James Michael Lake, on January 22, 1979. Their union was a remarkable testament to love and partnership, spanning over four decades.
Karen was a devoted mother to her daughters, Makenzie Rose Stixrud and Abigail Marie Lake, who were the lights of her life. As a family, they shared countless adventures, particularly enjoying trips to Seaside, Oregon. The beach was Karen's sanctuary, a place where she could play in the sand with Kenzie and Abbie, creating memories that will be cherished forever.
In 2019, Karen and Jim made Gilbert, Arizona, their home, where she continued to touch the lives of those around her. For 15 years, Karen dedicated herself to her work at Boeing, earning the respect and admiration of her colleagues with her unwavering commitment and infectious smile. Her kindness and generosity knew no bounds; she was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Beyond her professional life, Karen's greatest joy came from her family. The pride she felt as a mother was only surpassed by the joy of becoming a grandmother, a role she cherished dearly. Her legacy lives on in her granddaughter, who carries forward the love and warmth Karen bestowed upon everyone she met.
Karen's love for travel and the ocean was mirrored by her love for people. She had an extraordinary ability to light up a room with her smile and leave a lasting impression on all who crossed her path. Her spirit was a beacon of hope and kindness, and her presence brought comfort and joy to those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Karen is survived by her devoted husband, James Michael Lake; her two loving daughters, Makenzie Rose Stixrud and Abigail Marie Lake; and her cherished grandchild. Her memory will forever be a guiding light, reminding us all to live with love, laughter, and an open heart.
A celebration of Karen's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor the remarkable woman she was. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Karen's memory to leukemia research or to a charity of your choice.
Karen Sue Lake's life was a testament to love, resilience, and the impact one person can have on the world. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit will remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Rest in peace, dear Karen; your legacy of love and kindness will never be forgotten.
