It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Karen R. Cilley age 68 of Francestown, NH a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, who left this world peacefully on September 29, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loving daughters and son-in-law. Born on February 24, 1958, in Corinth, New York, Karen was the cherished daughter of Richard and Ruth Madison. She lived a life defined by courage, kindness, and an unwavering dedication to those she loved.
Karen was predeceased by her parents, Richard and Ruth, and her devoted husband of 46 years, George C. Cilley Sr. Together, Karen and George created a warm and nurturing home that served as the foundation for their beautiful blended family. Her legacy of love and resilience lives on through her children: daughters Kerry Cilley and fiancé Dan Palmer of Antrim, NH, Kelly Lackey and husband Patrick Lackey of Brattleboro, VT, and Katie Cilley and partner Patrick Sherlock of Jaffrey, NH; sons Richard VanNostrand of Manchester, NH, and Joshua VanNostrand of Warner, NH.
Karen is also survived by her sisters, Joy Shippee and partner Walter Rafalik, Peggy Madison and partner Linda Monson, and Dixie York, along with her brothers, Lonny Madison and wife Tammy Madison, Donnie Madison, and Gary Madison, all residing in upstate New York. She was a devoted grandmother to eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, and she held a special place in the hearts of her numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Throughout her life, Karen wore many hats, working as a pastry chef, kitchen aid, and custodian. Her talent for baking was evident in the signature birthday cakes she lovingly crafted for her family. Her love of nature was reflected in her passion for flowers and the joy she found in watching hummingbirds. Karen had a special affinity for her Pomeranians, Savannah, Oreo, and Butterscotch, who were constant companions and brought her endless joy.
Karen's quick wit and infectious laughter could brighten the darkest days. Her selflessness and kind heart touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. She had an extraordinary ability to make people feel valued and loved, a testament to her generous spirit.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at Amedisys Hospice for their compassionate care during Karen's final days. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Karen's memory to a charity of choice.
Karen R. Cilley will be dearly missed but fondly remembered, her spirit forever imprinted on the hearts of those who loved her. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the love she so freely gave in life.
