It is with profound sadness yet with a heart full of gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Karen Jean Williams, who left this world peacefully at her home on May 21, 2026. Born on February 20, 1949, in Connersville, Indiana, Karen was a beacon of light to all who knew her, leaving an indelible mark on both her family and community throughout her 77 years of life.
Karen was the cherished daughter of the late William and Jean Ware, who instilled in her the values of compassion and resilience. She was also predeceased by her beloved brother, Billy Ware. Her spirit and legacy live on through her devoted son, Dustin E. Ware, and her treasured niece, Crystal Ware, whom she helped raise with boundless love. Her family also includes her nieces Jessica Nicholson, Tyler Ware, and Kia, each of whom Karen held close to her heart.
A proud graduate of Connersville High School and Richmond Business School, Karen's ambition and fearlessness took her across the country. Her professional journey began in California, where she became an assistant to the legendary heavyweight boxing champion, Archie Moore. In 1990, Karen returned to the Midwest, joining the University of Cincinnati. Here, she dedicated over 26 years to developing diversity training programs, a testament to her commitment to inclusivity and understanding. Her work made a lasting impact on the university community and beyond.
Karen's faith was an integral part of her life. Baptized in Christ by her son, Dustin, in 2018, Karen's commitment to the Lord was unwavering. She was an active and cherished member of the Metropolitan CME Methodist Church in Cincinnati, Ohio, where she cultivated many deep and meaningful friendships.
An artist at heart, Karen's creativity knew no bounds. Her paintings were more than just art; they were vibrant reflections of her colorful spirit and unique personality. Known for her bold and vivacious style, Karen's presence was as unmistakable as her colorful clothing, her beautiful dark brown eyes, and her natural gray hair. She was unapologetically herself, and her authenticity inspired all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A service to celebrate and honor Karen's remarkable life will be held on June 20, 2026, at 11:30 AM at the Metropolitan CME Church, located at 2815 Melrose Ave, Cincinnati, OH, 45206. Her family extends their deepest gratitude to everyone who has offered love and support during this time of transition. Your impact has been felt in profound and immeasurable ways.
