Karen Ford
February 16, 1947 — August 13, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for the life she lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Karen Ford on August 13, 2026. Born on February 16, 1947, in Columbia, Missouri, Karen was a beacon of joy and creativity, known for her warmth, kindness, and artistic spirit.
Karen was the daughter of Nova and Virginia Du Pont. She shared her life with her loving partner, Ralph "Skip" Simkins, whose companionship she cherished deeply. Her life was also enriched by her siblings, Candy, Mike, sister in-law Peggy DuPont, as well as Rick and Lynn Carlsen with whom she shared countless memories.
She was the mother to two daughters, Jennifer DeWitt and Sharon O'Donnell. Her gentle spirit and nurturing nature have undoubtedly shaped their lives. She was also grandmother to Katherine and Lauren O'Donnell, who brought joy to her world. She also loved her niece and nephews.
Karen's life was a tapestry of artistic endeavors and passions. Her love for gardening and cooking was matched only by her enthusiasm for finding unique treasures while thrifting. She found beauty in everyday moments and shared this appreciation with those around her. An ever-present smile and a kind gesture were her trademarks, and she delighted in giving thoughtful gifts that brightened the lives of others.
Her family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at Sutter Hospital, the compassionate caregivers, neighbors, hospice nurses, and therapists who provided extraordinary care and comfort during her final days. Your kindness and dedication will always be remembered.
Karen will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends, each day reminding us to cherish the beauty around us and to live with love and kindness.
