February 18, 1950 — September 22, 2026

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved family member, Karen F. Mendelsohn. Karen F. Mendelsohn was born on February 18, 1950 in Cleveland, OH to parents Esther and Alvin Freidman, later adopted by her step father Norman After highschool she attended Kent State University where she graduated with her teaching degree. She continued her education at The Ohio State University where she received her Masters degree. Her teaching career began in Cleveland and continued with Mansfield City Schools when she moved. Her career in special education spanned more than 30 years! She used every opportunity to mentor, support, teach, and help thousands of students, families, and student teachers. Karen loved spending time outside. From working in the yard and planting flowers, to swimming in her pool, or sitting by a bonfire. She loved to host family dinners, holiday gatherings, exploring the earth and collecting its beauty. Although she could certainly be proud of the wealth of friends and chosen family she developed, her children are truly the source of deepest pride. Karen was always quick to serve the needs of others, and was always compelled to give out of whatever resources she had. She believed in the dignity of others and was passionate about advancing social justice. We are deeply saddened by this loss. Our hearts go out to those close to them. We remember the beautiful person that she was and take solace in knowing that she now is at peace. Rest in peace, Karen F. Mendelsohn. You will be dearly missed by all who knew you.
