April 25, 1948 — July 12, 2026
Karen Chase, a cherished daughter, sister, mother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home on July 12, 2026, after a courageous battle with brain, breast, and lung cancer. Born on April 25, 1948, in the close-knit community of Waynesville, Ohio, Karen was the beloved daughter of Darrell and Hazel Dakin, who predeceased her. Karen's life was defined by her unwavering dedication to caring for others, a trait that was evident in both her personal and professional life.
From a young age, Karen displayed a nurturing spirit, which guided her to pursue a career in nursing. Her journey as a nurse began in 1966, and over the years, she touched countless lives with her compassionate care and gentle demeanor. Her patients were not just recipients of medical care but beneficiaries of her kindness and empathy. She was a beacon of hope and comfort to those in her care, always ready with a warm smile and a reassuring word.
Karen's personal life was equally rich and fulfilling. She shared 30 years of marriage with Louis Chase, with whom she had a son, Christian, who resides in Dayton, Ohio. Despite the end of their marriage, Karen and Louis maintained a respectful and supportive relationship. In the later years of her life, Karen found love and companionship with Greg Pyle, her devoted boyfriend of eight years, who resides in Dayton, Ohio. Greg was a steadfast presence by her side, offering her love and strength during her illness.
Karen's family was the cornerstone of her life. She shared a special bond with her sisters, Brenda Lentz of Inverness, Florida, and Anita Cheatham of Edwardsville, Illinois. Her niece, Sarah Cheatham, and nephew, Samuel Cheatham, along with his fiancée Emily Miller, were a source of immense pride and joy for her. Karen cherished the time spent with her family, creating memories filled with laughter and love.
Her life was a testament to the power of compassion, resilience, and love. Karen faced her illness with remarkable strength, never losing her sense of humor or her ability to comfort those around her. Her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
