Karen Ann Douglas

January 9, 1953 — July 6, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Karen Ann Douglas, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, who graced this world from January 9, 1953, until July 6, 2026. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Karen was a beacon of love and warmth throughout her life, touching the hearts of everyone she met. Karen was the cherished daughter of Longin Tenerowicz and Irene (Centkirwicz), who instilled in her the values of kindness and compassion that she carried with her until her last day. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Thomas Douglas, with whom she shared a beautiful marriage from February 16, 1972, until his passing on August 13, 2019. Together, they created a family filled with love and laughter, a legacy that will continue to thrive in their absence. She was also predeceased by her dear daughter, Christinia Lynn Douglas (Karczynski). Karen is lovingly remembered by her surviving children, Robert Douglas and Tracie Douglas, as well as her brother Jerry (Kathy) Tenerowicz. She leaves behind her son-in-law, William Karczynski, and her adored grandchildren, Angellee (Daniel) Diaz, Anna Karczynski, and Ava Karczynski. Her great-grandchildren, Eualie and Daniel Diaz, will grow up with stories of her gentle spirit and infectious laughter. She is also survived by her sister-in-laws, LeeAnn Douglas (Cagle) and Dorothy Douglas, and her dear friend, Nancy Tripp. A proud graduate of Melvindale High School, class of 1971, Karen went on to lead a life filled with love and simple joys. She found immense pleasure in country drives with her family, baking delicious cakes and desserts for her loved ones, and decorating them with a skill that delighted all who were fortunate enough to partake. Her talents extended to cooking, and her home was always filled with the comforting aromas of home-cooked meals. Karen's love for her home was evident in her fondness for her big yard and gardens, where she spent countless hours tending to her plants, wielding her weed whacker, and using her leaf blower. She cherished moments spent in her gazebo, accompanied by her sweet dog, Tootsie, whose companionship brought her great joy. Her ability to whistle any tune brought smiles to those around her, as did her corny jokes and vibrant sense of humor. Known for her beautiful smile, gentle demeanor, and calm nature, Karen was a friend to all, always thinking of others and extending her compassion to everyone she met. Her down-to-earth personality made her approachable and beloved by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her strength, wit, and humor were just some of the qualities that endeared her to those around her. The family kindly requests that any expressions of sympathy be made to a charity of your choice in her honor. They would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the paramedics, nurses, doctors, and staff at Corewell Health Hospital in Royal Oak for their compassion during this difficult time. As we celebrate the life of Karen Ann Douglas, we hold onto the beautiful memories she leaves behind and the love she shared so freely. Her legacy of kindness and joy will forever be cherished by all who knew her.
