Kaitlin Renee' Despaw

The world has lost a truly remarkable soul with the passing of Kaitlin Despaw on August 18, 2026, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Born on December 29, 1994, in Auburn, New York, Kaitlin lived her life with a vibrant spirit that touched all who knew her. Kaitlin was the cherished daughter of Dane and Dawn Despaw, who survive her. Her brothers, Matthew Despaw and Dane Melvin Despaw, remember her as a devoted sister who was a fierce protector of her family and friends. Her family was central to her life, and she carried a profound love for them in her heart. Kaitlin joins her beloved cousin Dylan Despaw and her grandfather Ed Dunn in eternal rest. With a passion for words, Kaitlin majored in English, aspiring to become a book editor. Her love for books was a testament to her curious mind and imaginative spirit. Those who knew her will fondly recall her enthusiasm for reading and her admiration for the beauty of butterflies, which she often said symbolized transformation and hope. Kaitlin was renowned for her quick wit and sarcastic comebacks, which never failed to bring laughter to any room she entered. Her humor was a beacon of light, offering joy and comfort to those around her. A service to honor Kaitlin's life will be held on August 22, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Galena Community Church, located at 209 N. Maple Street, Galena, MO 65656. Family, friends, and all whose lives Kaitlin touched are invited to join in celebrating the remarkable life she led. The Despaw family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and caregivers at Mercy Hospital, Washington University, and Phoenix Home Care and Hospice for their compassionate care during Kaitlin's transition to Heaven. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Kaitlin's memory to organizations supporting brain cancer research, a cause close to her heart. Though Kaitlin's time with us was far too short, her legacy of love, laughter, and light will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
