Kai Misa, 19, of Richmond, VA passed away unexpectedly on July, 19th after committing suicide. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones. His artistic talents will be forever longed for in the community.
Kai was a remarkable person whose curiosity, determination, and talent set him apart from an early age. From 2023 to 2025, Kai was a member of the Early College Academy (ECA) program in Richmond, Virginia, where he challenged himself academically while pursuing his passions in technology and engineering.
Kai had a deep fascination with computer networking and cybersecurity. His ability to understand complex technical concepts at such a young age was extraordinary. By the age of 14, Kai’s knowledge and skill in networking earned him an opportunity to work with Cisco, where he was able to apply his understanding of computer systems and network infrastructure. His passion for technology was driven not just by curiosity, but by a genuine desire to understand how things worked and how he could improve them.
Outside of technology, Kai was also known for his incredible dedication to skating, especially in the discipline of freestyle slalom. He developed a reputation for his technical ability, precision, balance, and creativity on skates. Freestyle slalom requires exceptional control, patience, and countless hours of practice, and Kai’s talent reflected his discipline and willingness to push himself beyond ordinary limits.
Those who knew Kai saw someone who was constantly learning, whether it was mastering a new skating technique, exploring advanced networking concepts, or challenging himself academically. He represented the rare combination of creativity, intelligence, and athletic ability.
Kai’s journey through ECA and his pursuits in technology and skating showed a person who refused to stay within normal boundaries. He was always looking ahead, always improving, and always searching for the next challenge.
His memory lives on through the skills he developed, the people he inspired, and the passion he brought into everything he did.
A celebration of Kai’s life will honor his curiosity, his talent, and the impact he made on those around him.
