With profound sadness, we honor the life and legacy of Justin “Jessie” Melvin, who passed away peacefully on September 29, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born December 4, 1957, in Jacksonville, Florida, Jessie was a beacon of strength and joy to all who knew him. Jessie was born to Presteen Melvin and Tom Melvin and was lovingly raised alongside his siblings. He is predeceased by his parents and Louis Wanton, his beloved grandchildren Paris C. Strawder and Alexandria J. Henderson, his sister Deloris “Denise” Melvin, and his brothers Cortez Patton and Louis “Sweet Pea” Melvin. He is survived by his devoted children: Sharon Melvin Wiggins and husband Nathan, Astrid A. Melvin, Erika L. Ford, and Davanea S. Melvin Mitra and husband Julius. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Ariana L. D. Richardson, Aniyah C. Wiggins, John A. Smith Jr., Kaylee McClary, Kali McClary, Esaias C. Mitra, and Avea Z. D. Mitra. He also leaves behind his siblings, Tommie Balom, La’Joyce Richardson, and Jerusha “Ann” Johnson, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many sorrowing friends. Jessie's life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his family, his community, and his faith. He attended Jean Ribault High School, where he began to form the values that would guide him throughout his life. His sense of duty and service led him to join the United States Coast Guard, where he served with honor and integrity. Jessie's work life was filled with diverse experiences. He spent time working at McDonald's, sharing his love of music as a DJ at Saul Elks Club in Jasper, Florida, and later found his calling as a truck driver, a career he enjoyed until his retirement. Jessie had a love for the open road and found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as going fishing and traveling to visit family. A man of deep faith, Jessie cherished his relationship with God and was a faithful attendee of church services. His love for his family and his faith were the cornerstones of his life, providing him with strength and purpose. In honoring Jessie's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Jessie's memory, reflecting his generous spirit and commitment to helping others. As we celebrate the life of Justin “Jessie” Melvin, we remember a man who touched the hearts of everyone he met with his warmth, kindness, and unwavering faith. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace.
