It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Julian Maurice Babb, who departed this world on May 10, 2026, at the age of 90. Julian was born on October 4, 1935, in Colon, Panama, to the late Ursula and Reginald Babb, who instilled in him the values of perseverance, kindness, and dedication that he carried throughout his life.
Julian was a devoted son, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and partner. He is predeceased by his beloved parents, Ursula and Reginald Babb, his brother Reginald, sister Beverly and his dear sons, Daryl and Anthony. He is lovingly remembered by his brother Rue, sister Ivy and daughters Chondra M. Babb and Kecia Babb Jordan, who were his pride and joy. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Christian Jordan, Jared Jordan, Lua Fernandez, and Eliana Williams, his adored great-granddaughter, Malani Anglin and greatly loved nieces and nephews. Julian's life was profoundly enriched by the companionship of his life partner, Maria Hewie with whom he shared 50 years.
Julian's passion for learning led him to Philander Smith College in Little Rock, Arkansas. He also served in the US Army where he was a marksman. After honorable discharge he attended technical school becoming a successful X-ray & MRI technician dedicating over 25 years to a fulfilling career at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, NY. His colleagues and patients alike remember him for his gentle nature, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to his work.
Beyond his professional life, Julian was a man of diverse interests and talents. He had an adventurous spirit and a love for travel, often finding solace and joy in the sun-soaked shores of Aruba and the Caribbean. A talented cook, Julian delighted in preparing meals for his family and friends, filling their hearts and stomachs with love. He also had a fervent passion for sports, particularly his beloved New York Yankees, whose games he followed religiously.
Julian's life will be celebrated on May 21, 2026, at 9:00 a.m., at Unity Chapel, located at 2352 Fredrick Douglas Blvd #1, New York, NY 10027. Family, friends, and all whose lives he touched are invited to join in honoring a man whose legacy will forever be etched in our hearts.
