June 9, 1950 — May 30, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Julian Lynn Smart, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Lynn peacefully departed this life on May 30, 2026, at the age of 75. Born on June 9, 1950, in Leesville, Louisiana, Lynn was the cherished son of Andrew Rees and Eva Evelyn Smart, whose love and values he carried throughout his life. Lynn grew up in a bustling household, surrounded by the warmth and camaraderie of his siblings. He was predeceased in death by his parents, Andrew Rees and Eva Evelyn Smart; his brothers Rees Arlen, Odis, Jarvis, and Wesley; his sisters Ruby Eloise and Janie Sue; his sister-in-law Tena; and his nephews Kevin Wayne Smart, Jefferson Isaac Smart, and Sanford Justin Massey. Lynn leaves behind his wife of 30 years, Brenda. Together, they nurtured a blended family, celebrated by his surviving stepchildren Jacob Peachy, Ryan Powell, and his wife Jessica, and Marcus Powell and his girlfriend Danielle. He was the proud grandfather of 13 grandchildren, Walter, Zayden, Abigail, Kaylee, Jeremy, Renezame, Ryan Jr., Cayson, Sophia, Noah, Landon, Patrick, and Paxton, each of whom brought him immense joy and pride. Lynn shared his life with his brothers Dennis King Smart, Thomas Andrew Smart, and his wife Lydia, Almon Carroll Smart and his wife Barbara, and Frankie Elvin Smart and his wife Juanita. His sister, Helen June Swain, and her husband, Clifford, were dear to his heart. He was also treasured by numerous nieces and nephews, each touched by his kindness and humor. A man of many talents, Lynn was known for his lifelong career as a truck driver, a profession that allowed him to explore the open roads. Later in life, he drove a cab to stay closer to home, yet it was in his work as a backhoe and heavy equipment operator that he found his true passion. Lynn loved his job and the camaraderie of his colleagues, whose friendships he cherished. Lynn's interests extended beyond his work. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, finding peace in the great outdoors. He also enjoyed woodworking projects, crafting pieces that reflected his creativity and skill. However, it was his time spent with his grandchildren that he treasured most, sharing stories and laughter that will echo in their hearts forever. A member of the Rutherford County Baptist Church, Lynn's faith was a guiding force in his life. His quick wit, radiant smile, and welcoming nature endeared him to all who knew him. Lynn had a gift for making everyone feel at home, often with a well-timed joke and a warm embrace. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Community Care, especially nurses Jessica and Jenny, for their dedicated support and care during Julian's final days. Their efforts to keep him connected with his family will never be forgotten. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Lynn's life at a memorial service on June 13, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Old Anacoco Baptist Church, located at 2386 E Hawthorne Rd., Leesville, LA 71446. Julian Lynn Smart touched many lives with his kindness, humor, and generosity. Though he will be deeply missed, his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, and his legacy will endure in the stories and memories shared by all who were blessed to know him.
