Julia Marx, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully in her home on March 15, 2026, at the age of 98. Born on April 7, 1927, in Portland, Oregon, Julia was the cherished daughter of Grandma Dick and Daddy Buffum. She lived a life rich with love, laughter, and adventure. Julia spent her early years in Portland, where she cultivated a love for the outdoors and a deep appreciation for family values. She graduated from Lake Oswego High School in 1945, and later, in 1969, earned her Bachelor's degree from State University, a testament to her lifelong commitment to learning. On June 15, 1950, Julia married the love of her life, Bernard Marx, in a beautiful ceremony in Lake Oswego, Oregon. Together, they shared 40 wonderful years and raised four children: Daniel, Steven, Joan, and David. Their home was a sanctuary filled with warmth, joy, and the sounds of laughter. Although Barney preceded her in death, their love story remains an enduring inspiration. Julia was a dedicated employee at Ford Motor Company, where she worked for many years, contributing her keen intelligence and steadfast dedication. Her career was marked by her remarkable work ethic and her ability to bring people together. Beyond her professional life, Julia was an active and vibrant member of her community. She was a devoted member of Our Lady of the Lake for over 40 years and a longtime participant in the Manama Hiking Club. Her passion for adventure took her all over the world, and she cherished collecting unique jewelry from her travels. Julia also served as a volunteer Girl Scout Leader for 15 years, imparting her love for nature and kindness to the next generation. Her involvement with the World Travelers Club allowed her to share her stories and inspire others to explore the world. Julia's personal qualities left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Known for her quick wit and warm smile, she had a unique gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued. Her kindness and generosity touched countless lives, and her spirit of adventure inspired many. She is survived by her loving children: Daniel, Steven, Joan, and David; her sister, Anne Marie Dudley; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Julia was predeceased by her parents, her husband Barney, and her brother Jack. A memorial service celebrating Julia's life will be held on May 14, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Mary’s Woods, located at 123 Holy Named Road, Lake Oswego, OR 97035. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a memorial bench in Julia's honor, a fitting tribute to her love for nature and community. The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Mary’s Woods for their compassionate care. Julia will be remembered as a beacon of light in the lives of all who knew her. She will be forever in our hearts.
