Judith (Judy) Main Avery

Judith Main Avery, a beacon of love, service, and devotion, peacefully departed this world on August 12, 2026, at Rockwood North Memory Care in Spokane, Washington. Born on February 26, 1939, in Monrovia, California, Judy was the beloved daughter of Donovan and Lois Main. She was predeceased by her parents and brother, Donovan Main, but leaves behind a legacy of warmth and kindness through her family and community. Judy's life was a tapestry woven with cherished relationships and profound faith. She shared a beautiful journey of love with her devoted husband, Richard (Dick) Avery, whom she met in 1973 and married in 1975. Together, they crafted a life filled with joy and purpose, nurturing their family and serving their congregation with open hearts. Judy was a dedicated mother to her children, Kristen (Quint) Renz, Peter Quint, and Lindsay Avery, and a proud grandmother to Christopher, Daniel, Stanley Renz, Samar Emmet, and Ezra Quint. Her joy extended to her great-grandchildren: Coriegh, Curran, Keagan, Zeke, Freeman, Whittaker, Cedric, Ames, and Newland. Education was a cornerstone of Judy's life. She graduated from Fillmore Union High School in 1955 and went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts in Education from Occidental College in 1959. Judy’s early career as a substitute teacher reflected her passion for nurturing young minds. Later, as a single mother, she skillfully balanced her role as an administrative assistant at the School of Psychology at Fuller Seminary with her responsibilities at home. Her heart for others was evident as she embraced her role as a pastor's wife, extending hospitality and warmth to countless individuals. Judy's world was enriched by her involvement in various organizations and communities. Her lifelong dedication to her church, from La Canada Presbyterian to Monrovia Presbyterian, and finally, Shadle Park Presbyterian in Spokane, was a testament to her unwavering faith. Judy was also a cherished member of the PEO chapter and Zeta Tau Zeta sorority, where she formed lasting bonds and contributed her talents. Her interests were as diverse as they were passionate. Whether she was working in her yard, embarking on fly fishing adventures in Alaska, or collecting sea glass and shells at Ventura Beach, Judy's love for the outdoors was infectious. Her artistic spirit shone through in her painting and culinary endeavors, and her evenings were often spent with a good novel, a bowl of ice cream, or a game of Boggle. Judy's quiet strength and servant's heart were evident in every facet of her life, as she dedicated herself to prayer, study, and the well-being of those around her. A celebration of Judy's life will be held on September 26, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Rockwood at Whitworth event center, located at 10322 N Middleton, Spokane, WA 99218. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and volunteers at Rockwood Memory Care and Horizon Hospice of Spokane for their compassionate care during Judy's battle with Alzheimer's. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Young Life, an organization close to Judy's heart, in her memory. As we remember Judy, may we be inspired by her legacy of love, grace, and unwavering faith.
