August 17, 1947 — November 1, 2026

With heavy hearts and profound appreciation for a life well-lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Judite, beloved mother, sister, and friend. Born on August 17, 1947, in the vibrant city of Lisbon, Portugal, Judite graced this world with her presence for 79 wonderful years before passing away on November 1, 2026. Her departure came after a brief, courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by the love and support of family and friends at the HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence. Judite was the cherished daughter of Maria Helena Oliveira Santos and Antonio Bernardes Silva, who predeceased her, along with her brother, Zé Santos Silva. Despite the challenges of losing loved ones, her resilience and spirit shone brightly throughout her life. She is survived by her dedicated and supportive ex-husband and roommate, Alberto Brum; her beloved sister, Maria do Ceu Gracio; and her treasured children, Clara Helena LaRose (and husband Michael) and Carlos Alberto Brum. In 1974, Judite and Alberto Brum embarked on a journey of love and adventure, marrying in Parede, Portugal, before setting down roots in the United States. Although their marriage ended in 1990, their commitment to family and friendship never wavered, and they remained close companions throughout their lives. Judite's thirst for knowledge guided her to pursue further education at the Community College of Rhode Island in her 40s, demonstrating her unwavering determination and love for learning. Her active involvement in the church and local politics exemplified her dedication to community and faith, where she was a steadfast supporter and advocate. A creative soul, Judite expressed her artistry through crochet and knitting, crafting beautiful garments that she wore with pride. Her love for the beach was a lifelong affair, and she cherished every opportunity to travel with friends and family, creating memories that will be forever cherished. Known for her fun-loving spirit and unyielding strength of character, Judite had a unique ability to light up a room with her candid nature and infectious smile. Her legacy is one of love, resilience, and a commitment to being present for her family and friends in times of need. A service to celebrate Judite's life will be held on November 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church, located at 81 North Carpenter St, East Providence, RI. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and volunteers at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center for their exceptional care and compassion during Judite's final journey. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Judite's memory to organizations supporting cancer research or hospice care, reflecting her enduring spirit of giving and love. Judite's boundless love and joy will be deeply missed but forever cherished by those who knew her. May her soul rest in peace, embraced by the warmth of her heavenly home.
