Juan Medina

Juan Medina, born on November 11, 1953, in Mexico, passed away peacefully at St. Michael Medical Center with his wife, Joanne, and daughters, Araceli, Stacy, and Nikki, by his side. Juan was the son of Concepción and Elias Medina, who, along with his brothers Elias Medina and Jose Cruz Medina, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joanne (Winne), whom he married on July 26, 1975, in Fallon, Nevada; his four daughters: Araceli (Serrano) Rojas and husband, Nick Rojas and grandchildren Avigail and Maddox Rojas; Stacy (Medina) Leonhardt and her husband Shay Leonhardt and grandchildren Seth, Carly Jo, Adyson, Reese and Tate Leonhardt; Nikki Medina and his grandson Steven "Esteban" Barrett III; and Amanda Medina. He was a proud grandfather to Seth, Carly Jo, Adyson, Reese, Tate, Avigail, Steven "Esteban", and Maddox, who brought immense joy to his life. Juan's siblings: Guadalupe Medina; Caritina Knapp and her husband Jeff Knapp; Anna Rogers; Joel Medina; and Esther Waljeko and her husband Kevin Walejko; and Gloria Medina (wife of brother Elias Medina); along with many nieces, nephews, and their families. Juan's life was marked by a commitment to service, both in his professional and personal endeavors. He served in the United States Navy from 1972 until 2000, reaching the esteemed rank of Lieutenant. After retiring from active duty, Juan continued to contribute to the community by working in logistics at Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Keyport for 20 years until his retirement in March 2023. Juan earned a Master's of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix, a testament to his dedication to personal growth and learning. A man of few words, Juan was known for his quick wit and a funny sense of humor that could either make you smile, roll your eyes, or both. He found joy in golfing, softball, running, racquetball, and was a passionate music enthusiast, often strumming his guitars. After retirement, if he wasn't working outside, he was cheering on his football team, the San Francisco 49ers. Juan’s last wishes were to be laid to rest at sea, which will be handled with care by the United States Navy at a later date. His celebration of life will take place at the Central Kitsap Christian Church, 6735 Stampede Blvd NW, Bremerton, WA 98311, on Saturday, September 26th at 2:00 pm. Military Honors will be held the following Monday, September 28th, at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington, at 1:00 PM.
