With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Juan David Garza Jr. , who peacefully joined the Lord on March 26, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in the vibrant city of San Antonio, Texas, on March 16, 1977, David brought light and laughter into the lives of everyone who had the privilege to know him.
David was the cherished son of Irene Mercado and Jay Garza, who instilled in him the values of kindness, resilience, and generosity. Though his beloved grandmother, brother Jesse Garza, Aunt Cindy, and daughter Amber Bocanegra-Garza have preceded him in passing, we find solace in knowing they are reunited in peace.
David leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth, survived by his children, Jacob and Sarah, who were the pride and joy of his life. His siblings, Kasey (Jerry), Max, Desiree, and Alex, his step father Ruben, Aunt Dolly, along with his devoted girlfriend Regina who was his caretaker until the end, will forever hold dear the memories of his infectious laughter and spirited personality. Numerous nieces and nephews will remember him fondly as their fun-loving uncle, whose presence could light up any room.
Though David did not pursue formal education, his journey as a surveyor is a testament to his determination and skill. He carved a successful career, teaching and guiding others in the trade with unmatched generosity and expertise. His colleagues and mentees will remember him as a mentor who lifted others as he climbed the ladder of success.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, David was a man of diverse interests. He was a passionate card collector and an admirer of handcrafted knives, finding joy in the artistry of each piece. His curiosity about electronics exemplified his ever-inquisitive spirit. He also loved music and going to concerts. David was able to fulfill a lifelong dream of being a drummer in the band "Phoenix Jackson", which he enjoyed every minute of.
David was known as the life of the party, whose personality was both contagious and uplifting. His love for puns and humor brought smiles to countless faces, while his emotional depth allowed him to connect deeply with those around him. He was a loving and generous man who gave freely of his time and affection, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.
A private funeral ceremony will be held to honor his life and legacy. The family extends their deepest gratitude to all who have offered their support and love during this time.
As we bid farewell to our beloved David, we find comfort in the words of Romans 6:8, "Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him" (NIV). His spirit lives on in our hearts, and though he will be greatly missed, we hold onto the hope that we will meet again.
David, you are forever in our hearts. Until we meet again, may you rest in eternal peace.
