It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Joycelyn Gliss Nealy, known as Joy to her family and friends. Joycelyn departed this world on May 28, 2026, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 57. Born on April 30, 1969, in Temple, Texas, she was a beacon of light and a source of strength to all who knew her. Joycelyn was the cherished daughter of Evelyne Arlene Nealy and the late John Wesley Spraglin. From her earliest days, she carried the warmth and resilience of her parents, traits that she would later share generously with everyone she met. A proud graduate of Temple High School, Joycelyn went on to pursue her education at Temple College, Texas Woman's University, and Central Texas College. Her thirst for knowledge and innate curiosity were evident in her academic pursuits, and these qualities would serve her well throughout her life. In 1997, Joycelyn answered the call to serve her country, joining the United States Army. Her service from 1997 to 1999 was marked by dedication, discipline, and a profound sense of duty—a reflection of her character and commitment to the greater good. Her professional journey was one of dedication and service. From 1985 to 1997, Joycelyn worked as a clerk at Scott and White Hospital, where her kindness and efficiency left a lasting impression. Later, from 2003 until her passing in 2026, she served as a Veterans Service Representative at the VA and the DROC. In this role, Joycelyn was more than just an employee; she was a compassionate advocate for veterans, always willing to go the extra mile to ensure they received the care and support they deserved. Joycelyn had an innate passion for fashion, business, technology, and music. Her love for these interests was contagious, and she often shared her knowledge and enthusiasm with those around her. Whether she was discussing the latest technological advancements or helping someone pick out the perfect outfit, Joycelyn's joy was infectious. Her love for her family was unparalleled. Joycelyn was a devoted sister to Tami Nealy, a beloved aunt to Tamitra, Tamera, and Tamaya Nealy, and a doting great-aunt to Ean Nealy Daniels. Her family was the center of her world, and she cherished every moment spent with them. She was also a loving niece to Joyce Williams and her husband Ronald, and to her uncles Donal and James Nealy. Joycelyn's extended family included a host of cousins and dear friends, all of whom she held close to her heart. Joycelyn was known for her willingness to help others and her natural gift for problem-solving, especially when it came to technology. Her ability to find solutions and her eagerness to lend a hand were matched only by her love for those around her. As we remember Joycelyn, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. The family will hold a memorial service to honor Joycelyn's life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of choice in her memory, celebrating her spirit of giving and compassion. Joycelyn Gliss Nealy will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Her light continues to shine through the lives she touched, and her memory will forever be cherished.
