June 27, 1940 — June 23, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Joyce Key Gibson, who left this world peacefully on June 23, 2026, just four days shy of her 86th birthday. Born on June 27, 1940, in the charming town of Waynesboro, Virginia, Joyce was the cherished daughter of Franklin Calvin Key and Nancy Hunt Key, both of whom preceded her in death. Joyce was a devoted wife, beloved sister, and a cherished aunt whose warmth and kindness left an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lewis L. Gibson, Jr., with whom she shared a beautiful marriage that began on January 27, 1990. Their union was a testament to love, partnership, and mutual respect. Joyce's professional journey was marked by dedication and commitment, culminating in her retirement from the First Virginia Bank of Augusta in 2001 after 23 years of exemplary service. Her colleagues remember her as a pillar of integrity and a beacon of positivity, traits she carried into all aspects of her life. A devoted member of the Barren Ridge Church of the Brethren, Joyce was deeply committed to her faith and community. Her involvement in church activities provided not only a source of spiritual fulfillment but also an avenue for forging lifelong friendships. Her gentle spirit and unwavering faith were an inspiration to many within the congregation. Joyce is survived by her loving sisters, Mary K. Wright and June K. Utt, who shared a bond that only sisters can know. Her legacy of love and kindness continues through her nephew, William David Wright and his wife Kim, and her niece, Samantha W. Previs and her husband Greg. Joyce's heart overflowed with pride for her great-nieces and nephews, who brought her immeasurable joy. A service to celebrate Joyce's remarkable life will be held on June 29, 2026, at the Barren Ridge Church of the Brethren, located at 1790 Barren Ridge Road, Staunton, Virginia. Friends and family are invited to gather to honor the life of a woman whose presence was a gift to us all. Joyce Key Gibson leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering faith. While we mourn her passing, we also celebrate the beautiful life she lived and the countless memories that will forever hold a special place in our hearts. May her gentle soul rest in eternal peace, embraced by the love of those who have gone before her.
