September 5, 1938 — May 31, 2026
In loving memory, we commemorate the life of Joyce E. Christensen, who departed this world peacefully at her home on May 31, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on September 5, 1938, in Omaha, Nebraska, Joyce was the beloved daughter of Earl and Frances Hansen. Her journey through life was marked by a deep commitment to her family, community, and the field of education.
Joyce was a pillar of strength, wisdom, and compassion, dedicating her career to shaping young minds within the Omaha Public Schools. Her tenure included serving as a principal at South High, where her leadership and dedication left an indelible mark on countless students and colleagues. Her passion for education and nurturing the potential in others was evident in every role she undertook, and her legacy continues to inspire those who follow in her footsteps.
Family was the cornerstone of Joyce's life. She is survived by her loving children: daughters Cynde Glismann (Bill), Nancy Bicskei (Carl), Susie Weisenburger (Steven Frank), and son Tom Christensen (Tana). Her nurturing spirit extended to her cherished grandchildren—Elizabeth Placzek (Ryan), Tom Bicskei (Amy), Matt Bicskei (Karen), and Kolby Weisenburger (Charron)—and further blessed by the presence of three great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy and pride.
Joyce was a woman of unwavering faith and an advocate for her community. Her benevolent spirit was reflected in her support of the Omaha food bank, where she believed in the power of kindness and giving back to those in need. Her legacy of generosity is a beacon of hope and love that will continue to shine brightly.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Sterling Ridge assisted living for their compassionate care and support. Joyce found comfort and companionship in her final days, surrounded by those dedicated to her well-being.
As we say goodbye, we remember Joyce not only for her accomplishments but for the love, laughter, and warmth she brought into our lives. Her memory will forever be cherished by all who knew her. A private family service will be held to honor her life, and in lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Omaha food bank in her memory.
May Joyce E. Christensen rest in peace, knowing her life was a testament to generosity, love, and the profound impact of a life well-lived.
