Joyce Ann Skinner

July 3, 1931 — April 8, 2026

On April 8, 2026, the world lost a beloved soul. Joyce Ann Skinner, aged 94, passed away peacefully in her sleep, in the quiet comfort of her surroundings. Born on July 3, 1931, in Highland, Illinois, she was the cherished daughter of Faye (Wall) Redding and Doris "Rusty" Redding, both of whom predeceased her. Joyce shared a beautiful and enduring love with her late husband, Wayne H. Skinner, whom she married on July 24, 1953. Together, they built a life full of joy, laughter, and unwavering commitment, celebrating 65 wonderful years together. They raised two devoted daughters, Cynthia Rice of Vandalia, IL, and Charlotte Eckart of Houston, TX, who carry forward their mother's legacy of kindness and resilience. Her life was an exemplary tapestry of dedication and passion. A graduate of Greenville College with a Bachelor's degree in Education, Joyce devoted her career to nurturing young minds as a first-grade and special education teacher in Greenville, IL. Her influence extended beyond the classroom, as she became a beacon of inspiration and guidance for countless students. Joyce's faith was an integral part of her life. As an active member of The United Methodist Church and The Order of the Eastern Star, she found fulfillment in serving her community. Her love for music led her to play the piano and direct the church choir in both Greenville and Pocahontas, where her harmonious spirit touched many hearts. Outside of her professional and spiritual commitments, Joyce indulged in her passion for quilting, creating beautiful pieces that warmed her loved ones' lives. She was also known for her incredible baking skills, particularly her homemade bread, which she lovingly taught her grandchildren to make. Her home was a welcoming haven, often filled with the aroma of fresh bread and the joyful sounds of family gatherings. Her warm smile and welcoming personality made her the natural host of Sunday dinners and family holidays, where she cherished the company of her family and friends. Joyce's legacy extends through her 19 cherished great-grandchildren and seven grandchildren: Travis (Amanda) Thacker of Blooming Prairie, MN; Heather Lovatto of Springfield, IL; Charles (Courtney) Thacker of Enderlin, ND; Courtney Ashlock of Denver, CO; April Kunkel of Houston, TX; Nicholas Roesselet of Pearland, TX; and Sabrina Roesselet of Houston, TX. Each of them carries a piece of her heart, living out the values she instilled in them. A service to celebrate Joyce's remarkable life will be held on April 17, 2026, at 9:00 AM at Assalley Funeral Home, located at 118 E College Ave, Greenville, IL 62246. Family and friends will gather to honor a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and immeasurable kindness. As we bid farewell to Joyce Ann Skinner, we remember her for her nurturing spirit, her boundless love, and the vibrant life she lived. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, wisdom, and a family who will forever cherish her memory. May she rest in peace, and may her spirit continue to inspire all who knew her.
