Joyce Anita Jones

It is with heartfelt sorrow and deep gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Joyce Anita (Brown) Jones, beloved wife, mother. aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, who departed this life in her sleep on August 24, 2026. Born on August 11, 1951, in Newport News, Virginia, Joyce was a beacon of love and warmth to everyone who knew her. Joyce was the cherished daughter of Clara Eugene Pope and Johnny Brown, and was lovingly raised by her stepfather, Clarence L. Pope. She joins her husband, parents and stepfather in eternal rest. She shared a joyful and blessed marriage of 45 years with her devoted husband, George A. Jones, whom she wed on September 29, 1981, in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. A proud alumna of Huntington High School in Newport News, Joyce embarked on a long and fulfilling career at the Newport News Shipyard, where she dedicated over 36 years of service, working for various departments.Her work ethic and commitment were admired by her colleagues and community. Joyce’s heart was as vast as her talents. She was an active member of the Churchland Assembly of God in Portsmouth, Virginia, where her faith and compassion touched many lives. Known for her culinary prowess, Joyce's homemade cakes and pies were legendary. Her passion for baking led her to take professional culinary classes, resulting in the creation of over 20 wedding cakes. She lovingly compiled volumes of recipes, which she generously shared with family and friends, ensuring her legacy endures. Joyce is survived by her children: Tammy D. Castille of Norfolk, VA; Ronald N. Robinson of Williamsburg, VA; Gwendolyn J. Brown (Christianne) of Williamsburg, VA; Marcus D. Brown (Paula) of Suffolk, VA; and her goddaughter, Mary Hutchinson, of Suffolk, VA. She leaves behind her devoted siblings: Johnny Brown (Marlene) of Cherry Hill, NJ, and Gregory Brown (Jackie) of Columbia, SC. Joyce's legacy continues through her 14 adoring grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, who were the joy of her life. Beloved Aunt: Shirley Chambers of Newport News. In addition to her immediate family, Joyce shared special bonds with her siblings: Larry Brown, Dwight Brown, Wilma Brown-Rogers, Clarence L. Pope, Ronald N. Brown, and Johnny Brown Jr., Aunt: Louise Alice Brown Peartree, who preceded her in death. The family kindly suggests that memorial contributions be made to a charity of one's choice and appreciate flowers being sent to Cooke Brothers funeral Parlor, 1601 27th street, Newport Mews, Va. 23607 in honor of Joyce’s generous spirit and love for community. Joyce will be remembered for her unwavering love, her incredible skill in the kitchen, and her warm, inviting spirit. Her laughter, kindness, and wisdom will be dearly missed but never forgotten. Through the lives she touched and the love she shared, Joyce's legacy will continue to inspire and bless all who knew her.
