Joya Darcelle Grier
December 25, 1965 — September 26, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joya Darcelle Grier, a beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who left this world peacefully in her sleep on September 26, 2026. Born on December 25, 1965, in Detroit, Michigan, Joya was a beacon of love and joy, whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of everyone she encountered.
Joya was the cherished daughter of Franklin and Rose Grier, who preceded her in death, along with her dear niece, Cali Rose. She was a dedicated and loving mother, leaving behind to cherish her memory her children: Raven Tyus, married to Camron Colts, Robin Lockett, married to Damon Lockett, and her beloved bonus daughter, Cecile Lewis. Her legacy of love continues through her grandchildren: Seven Johnson, Skylar Colts, Camron Colts II, and Tahlia Colts.
As a sister, Joya was deeply loved and will be forever remembered by her siblings: Sandra Dixon, married to Randy Dixon, Malcolm Grier, married to Charlita Grier, and Lynnette Alexander, married to Lisa Alexander. Her nephews, Darian and Devin, will always hold her close in their hearts, as will her longtime friend, Terrence Searcy, whom she loved as family.
Joya's warmth and kindness extended beyond her immediate family. She is survived by her two beloved aunts, Flo and Debbie, and her loving best friends, Angela Madison and Carmen Richards, who were like sisters to her. Her circle of love was vast, including a host of cherished friends, classmates, and her lottery buddies, all of whom shared countless memories and laughter with her throughout the years.
A celebration of Joya's life will be held on October 13, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Kemp Funeral Home and Cremation Services, located at 24585 Evergreen Rd. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor and remember the beautiful life Joya lived.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Joya's memory are encouraged to make donations to a charity of their choice, continuing her legacy of generosity and compassion.
Joya lived loudly, loved deeply, and laughed freely. Her unforgettable spirit and the love she shared will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
