Joy Ward
December 18, 1929 — May 15, 2026
With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Joy Ward, a beloved matriarch, cherished friend, and devoted community member, on May 15, 2026. Joy left this world as she lived her life: surrounded by love, family, and the comfort of her home in Halls, TN. Born on December 18, 1929, in Porters Gap, TN, Joy was the daughter of the late Archie Noel and Audrey (Davis) Hastings. Her life was a testament to the enduring power of love, resilience, and community.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Betty McConnell; a son, Mickey Ward; two sisters, Glendora Clevenger and Zera Mae Alley; and a brother, Wilbur "Brother" Hastings. Despite these profound losses, Joy's spirit remained unyielding, and her heart open to the joys of family and friendship.
She is survived by her daughters, Donna (Roger) Booker of Hendersonville, TN, and Terri Holley of Halls, TN; her son, Jimbo (Glenda) Ward of Halls, TN; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren, and an ever-growing lineage of great-great-grandchildren who will carry forward her legacy of love and laughter.
Joy's career spanned decades at Tupperware Manufacturing, from which she retired to join the Halls Funeral Home family as a hostess and funeral assistant. Her warm presence and gentle guidance comforted countless families during their times of need, reflecting the deep compassion that was a hallmark of her character.
A devoted member of the Halls Church of Christ, Joy's faith was a guiding light in her life. She found immense joy in her church community, and her devotion was reciprocated by the many who cherished her friendship and wise counsel.
Joy had a profound love for nature, often spending her days tending to her garden of vibrant flowers—a reflection of the beauty and vitality she brought into the lives of those around her. She was also an avid traveler, embracing adventures with friends that took her as far as Bermuda. Her love for music was a constant joy, with bands providing the soundtrack to many cherished memories.
A service to celebrate Joy's remarkable life will be held at 2:00 PM on May 17, 2026, at Halls Funeral Home, located at 109 N. Church St., Halls, TN. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Joy's honor to be made to the West Tennessee Children's Home, P.O. Box 10, Springhill, TN 37174, or the Halls Church of Christ, 220 S Church St., Halls, TN 38040.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Halls Funeral Home for their compassionate care and support during this difficult time. They are honored to serve the family of Ms. Joy Ward, a woman whose life was defined by love, kindness, and unwavering faith. Joy's spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of her loved ones, and her legacy will continue to inspire all who knew her.
