In Loving Memory

Josephine Robinson
May 7, 1949 — June 26, 2026
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Josephine Robinson, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, who departed this world peacefully on June 26, 2026, at the age of 77. Josephine was born on May 7, 1949, in the vibrant city of Chicago, Illinois, to Eleanor Cobbins and Joseph Robinson. Her life was a testament to resilience, love, and unwavering commitment to her family and community.
Josephine was preceded in death by her loving parents, Eleanor and Joseph, her cherished brother Phillip Robinson, and her dear sisters Felicia Robinson and Claire Robinson-Sanders. She now joins them in eternal rest, embraced by the comfort of their reunion.
Josephine’s life was rich with love and laughter, much of which she shared with her childhood sweetheart and husband, Elbert Carter. Though Elbert has preceded her in death, their love story continues to inspire all who knew them. Together, they shared 25 years of joy and raised two wonderful children, Deanna Robinson and Davidson Robinson, who carry forward their mother’s legacy of kindness and strength.
In addition to being a devoted mother, Josephine was the proud grandmother to Brittany Robinson and Tyreek Robinson, who were the light of her life. Her two grandchildren were constant sources of pride and joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
From the tender age of 15, Josephine dedicated herself to her craft as a seamstress in Chicago, working diligently for five decades. Her skill with a needle was matched only by her generosity of spirit. In her later years, Josephine turned her attention to a cause close to her heart, offering a helping hand to those in need through an at-home recovery program for individuals battling drug addiction. Her contributions to the community will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.
Josephine was a woman of many talents and interests. She delighted in preparing sumptuous Sunday dinners, filling her home with the savory aromas of family recipes passed down through generations. An avid seamstress, she found joy in creating beautiful garments and quilts, each stitch a testament to her patience and creativity. Josephine's love for “dusties,” those timeless classics, was well known, and her home was often filled with the soulful sounds that brought her so much happiness.
Known for her wit and humor, Josephine had a knack for bringing smiles to those around her. Her laughter was infectious, and she always had a joke ready to lighten the mood. Her compassionate nature and joyful spirit will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A celebration of Josephine’s remarkable life will be held on July 3, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Cornerstone Baptist Church, located at 1210 E 62nd St. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and honor of a woman whose life was a beacon of light and love.
The Robinson family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to all who have shown support and respect during this difficult time. Josephine will be dearly missed, but her legacy of love and laughter will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
