It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for her remarkable life that we announce the passing of Josephine Mitchell, who departed this world peacefully on May 11, 2026, at the age of 100. Born on June 20, 1925, in the small town of Maxeys, Georgia, Josephine was the cherished daughter of Joseph and Nancy Sims (Watson). She was a beacon of love and strength, whose legacy will forever be cherished by her family and community. Josephine was predeceased by her devoted husband, Nathaniel Mitchell, with whom she shared 25 years of a loving and beautiful marriage. Together, they built a life filled with joy, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to family and faith. Their union was blessed with 12 children, who were the pride and joy of Josephine’s life. Her family tree flourished with 30 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren, each a testament to her enduring legacy of love and kindness. Josephine’s life was a testament to her deep faith and dedication to her community. A devoted member of Providence Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Otis Moss, Jr., she served diligently on Usher Board #1, where her warm smile welcomed countless parishioners. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond the church doors as she prepared and served meals for special events, ensuring that no one left without feeling the warmth of her hospitality. For two decades, she tenderly maintained the communion table linens, a symbol of her unwavering devotion. Even as she gracefully aged, Josephine continued to serve on the Mothers Board, embodying the strength, wisdom, and compassion that defined her character. Her faith was both a guiding light and a source of solace, not only for her but for all who were fortunate to know her. Josephine's legacy is one of love, faith, and service. Her life was a beautiful tapestry woven with threads of kindness, resilience, and a deep sense of duty to her family and community. She leaves behind a host of relatives and friends who were touched by her gentle spirit and warm heart. A celebration of Josephine’s life will be held on May 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Providence Baptist Church, located at 1773 Hawthorne Ave, College Park, GA 30337. Family, friends, and all whose lives she touched are invited to join in honoring the remarkable life of a woman who gave so much of herself to others. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Providence Baptist Church’s community outreach programs, a cause dear to Josephine’s heart. As we bid farewell to our beloved Josephine, we find comfort in knowing that she is reunited with her loved ones who have gone before her, embraced by the eternal peace she so richly deserves. Her spirit will continue to illuminate our hearts and guide us in our own journeys.
