Joseph Raymond Mallais
February 6, 1946 — March 25, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Joseph Raymond Mallais, who departed from this world peacefully on March 25, 2026, at the age of 80. Born in Toronto, Ontario, on February 6, 1946, Joseph's life was a testament to his unwavering love for his family and his zest for life.
Joseph, affectionately known as Joe to many, was born to Edward and Cecile Mallais, who predeceased him, along with his brothers Paul, Daniel, Ernie, his son-in-law Dan Ritchie, and sister-in-law Marlene Williams. Despite these losses, Joe's heart remained full as he cherished the family who surrounded him.
His beloved wife, Mary Mallais, was the love of his life and his devoted partner for 62 beautiful years. Married on February 15, 1964, at St. Joseph's Parish in Toronto, their love story was a beacon of hope and inspiration to all who knew them. Together, they raised a loving family: their daughter Elizabeth, married to Dan; sons Jeff, with his wife Lizette, and Jason, with his wife Annette. Joe's legacy lives on in his nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, who were a constant source of pride and joy.
Joe is also survived by his brother Michael and his wife Sandy, his sisters Pauline and her husband Brad, and Doreen and her husband Ken, as well as Gigi and her husband Jim. He shared a close bond with his brother-in-law Alec and his wife Valerie, along with several cherished nieces and nephews who will dearly miss his presence.
For over 30 years, Joe dedicated his career to working as a millwright, where his remarkable talent for fixing anything was well-known and respected. His colleagues often marveled at his quick wit and humor, which made every day on the job a little brighter.
Outside of work, Joe found joy in his hobbies and interests. He had a passion for working on old cars, a love he shared through racing and spending countless hours perfecting engines. The serene waters of Lake Couchiching were a haven for Joe, where he and his family made countless memories on their boat. Joe's enthusiasm for life extended to the ice rinks, where he was a proud spectator of his sons Jeff and Jason as they played hockey.
Joe's love for his family was evident in the big gatherings he adored, where laughter, music, and sing-alongs filled the air. His quick wit and ability to light up any room will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
A celebration of Joseph's life will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at St. Joseph's Parish, 162 Leslie St., Toronto, Ontario. The family invites all who were touched by Joe's warmth and humor to join in commemorating a life that was truly a blessing.
In this time of sorrow, we find comfort in the love and memories Joseph leaves behind, knowing that his spirit will forever be etched in the hearts of those he loved dearly.
