Joseph Olatunde Atere, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away peacefully on September 3, 2026, after a courageous battle with illness. Born on March 5, 1956, in Lagos, Nigeria, Joseph was the cherished son of the late John and Josephine Atere-Roberts. His life was a testament to resilience, love, and an unwavering spirit. Joseph was a man of many talents and interests. He initially pursued studies in agriculture, but his career path led him to become a skilled refrigeration engineer. His work was more than just a job; it was a testament to his dedication and work ethic, attributes that earned him respect and admiration from colleagues and clients alike. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Joseph was a man with a zest for life. He had a profound love for dancing and could often be found on the dance floor, dazzling everyone with his moves well into the night. His quick wit and warm smile had the power to light up a room, and he had an unparalleled gift for making those around him feel valued and welcome. Joseph's kindness and generosity left a lasting impression on everyone who was fortunate enough to cross his path. Joseph shared his life with several loved ones. He married Eslene after meeting her in 1979, and together they shared 22 years and five wonderful children: Olu, Ife, Tsahai, Shem, and Tesfa. Although they eventually parted ways, their connection remained through their shared family. Joseph was also a proud father to daughter Puma, with Ajo, and daughters Jade and Rebecca, with Rachel. Later, he welcomed Jazarah and Zylon into his life with Cynthia. Joseph's legacy lives on through his ten children and four cherished grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life. Preceded in death by his parents, sister Jane, and brother Melville, Joseph is survived by his brother Dele, sisters Sade and Julie, his children and grandchildren, who will carry forward his spirit and teachings. Each of them holds a piece of his heart and continues to embody the love and values he imparted.
