Joseph Newman
May 6, 1952 — July 12, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of Joseph Newman, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left this world peacefully on July 12, 2026, at his home in Augusta, Georgia, surrounded by his devoted family. Born on May 6, 1952, in Augusta, Joseph lived a life rich in love, laughter, and service to others.
Joseph was the beloved son of Jean and the late Joseph Newman Sr. He was predeceased by his father and brothers, Trey and Bill Newman. He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Cherry, who he married on January 12, 2004, in a beautiful ceremony in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, love, and the aroma of Cherry's cooking, which Joseph adored.
A proud graduate of Harlem High School, Joseph furthered his education at Augusta College, setting the foundation for a successful career. As a residential general contractor, he dedicated many years to building and improving homes and communities, notably contributing his skills at Plant Vogtle and later retiring from the Augusta Housing Authority.
Family was the cornerstone of Joseph’s life. He was a devoted father to his daughter, Heather, and stepchildren Edward and Christopher. His role as a grandfather to ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild brought him immense joy. Joseph cherished every moment with them, whether it was fishing, camping, or simply enjoying the thrill of a Georgia Bulldogs game together.
Joseph’s legacy is one of kindness, humor, and an unwavering zest for life. Known for his wittiness and a heart of gold, he never missed a chance to ride his motorcycle or cast a line into the water, sharing these passions with those he loved. His siblings, Rita and Dianne, along with his mother Jean, will forever hold dear the memories of laughter and joyful moments spent together.
A service to celebrate Joseph's life will be held on July 16, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Platt’s Funeral Home, located at 337 North Belair Road, Evans, GA 30809. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Georgia Hospice Care for their compassionate support and dedication during Joseph’s final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests that memorial donations be made to a charity of your choice in honor of Joseph’s generous spirit and love for his community.
Joseph Newman was a man who touched the hearts of many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will continue to inspire and comfort his family and friends for generations to come.
