March 9, 1969 — May 29, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Michael Thompson, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, son, and friend, who left this world peacefully on May 29, 2026, at Sweetwater Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in the heart of Sweetwater, Tennessee, on March 9, 1969, Joe lived a life filled with love, dedication, and deep connections with all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Joseph was the beloved son of ElizaBeth Louise Thompson and the late Pete Thompson, and he carried forward the legacy of kindness and integrity instilled in him by his parents. He is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years, Tammy Thompson, who stood by his side with unwavering support and love. Their marriage was a testament to a profound and enduring partnership. He was a proud father to his son, Christopher Thompson, and his daughter, Miranda Cronan, both of whom he adored immeasurably. Joseph’s legacy continues through his four grandchildren—Christine, David, Evan, and Mason—who brought endless joy and light to his life. His gentle spirit and playful nature will forever be remembered in the laughter and love he shared with them. Joseph dedicated over 20 years of his life to his work as a welder, where his skill and craftsmanship left a lasting mark. His colleagues remember him as a man of strength and integrity, whose work ethic and camaraderie enriched the lives of those he worked alongside. An avid lover of the outdoors, Joe found peace and fulfillment in the simple pleasures of fishing and gardening. He was often found casting a line at his favorite fishing spot or tending to his vibrant garden, a sanctuary of beauty he lovingly cultivated. Joseph took immense joy in sharing these passions with his grandchildren, teaching them to appreciate the wonders of nature. In addition to his immediate family, Joseph is survived by his loving mother Louise Thompson; his two sisters, Donna Crowder and Gena McDaniel; his brother, Gene Thompson; and his brother-in-law, Hank Jenkins. He also leaves behind a host of beloved nieces and nephews, each of whom he cherished dearly. His father, Pete, predeceased him, and Joseph now joins him in eternal peace. The Thompson family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Sweetwater Hospital ICU for their attentive and devoted care during Joseph’s final days. Their kindness and professionalism provided comfort and solace in a time of profound difficulty. As we gather to celebrate the life of Joseph Michael Thompson, we remember a man whose heart was as expansive as the skies he loved to fish under. His legacy is one of love, resilience, and warmth, and he will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Joseph's memory, as a way to continue his spirit of generosity and kindness. A memorial service will be held to honor his remarkable life, details of which will be shared by the family. Joseph's memory will forever be cherished, and his spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who loved him. Rest in peace, dear Joseph, in the embrace of the heavenly gardens.
