Joseph Leo Larade
September 26, 1957 – March 22, 2026
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joseph Leo Larade, affectionately known to all as Leo, who left us on March 22, 2026. His journey began in the charming town of Cheticamp, Nova Scotia, where he was born to loving parents, Pierre-Louis and Dorine Larade, on September 26, 1957. Cheticamp, with its breathtaking landscapes and warm community, served as the backdrop for Leo's formative years, shaping the compassionate and vibrant man he became.
Leo was a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend. He was predeceased by his brother Michael and sisters Elizabeth and Odette, whose memories he cherished deeply. He is survived by his son Jason, daughter-in-law Justine, and his two beloved grandchildren, Nevaeh and Ryan, who brought immense joy and pride to his life. Leo's legacy continues through his brothers Stanley, Robert, Hayden, and Roger, and his sisters Stella, Nancy, Linda, and Madeleine. His devoted companion of 15 years, Susan Bryden, stood by his side, sharing countless cherished moments that will forever remain in her heart.
Leo's life was enriched by the special bond he shared with Annette Poirier, along with many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends who were deeply touched by his presence. Known for his lovable smile, infectious humor, and candid nature, Leo had a unique ability to light up any room. His funny jokes and blunt answers left a lasting impression on all who knew him, and his funny temperament was both endearing and memorable.
Leo's passions were as diverse as his personality. He cherished spending time with his family, which was the cornerstone of his life. When not surrounded by loved ones, Leo found solace in the great outdoors, particularly in fishing and hunting, where he connected with nature's tranquility. At home, he was an avid fan of the Boston Bruins, rarely missing a game, and his enthusiasm for hockey was contagious.
The family extends their sincerest gratitude to the staff at the Sacred Heart Community Health Centre for the exceptional care and compassion they provided to Leo during his time there. A special thank you is also extended to Tracy for her unwavering support and presence when Leo needed it most.
Cremation has already taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date this summer, allowing family and friends to gather and honor Leo's remarkable life. In lieu of immediate condolences, cards can be dropped off with Annette Poirier, as Jason resides away.
As we say goodbye to Leo, we hold close the memories of a man who lived fully, loved deeply, and left an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know him. May his spirit continue to inspire and guide us, as we carry forward his legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering kindness.
