Joseph L Augusta

July 3, 1932 — March 1, 2026

With heavy hearts but deep gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Joseph L. Augusta, fondly known as "Uncle Joe" to many, who left us peacefully on March 1, 2026, at the age of 93. Born on July 3, 1932, in Rotterdam Junction, NY, Joe was the beloved son of Minnie and Frank Augusta. Throughout his life, he embodied the values instilled in him by his parents: kindness, generosity, and a steadfast work ethic. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Floyd and Frank Augusta, and his sister Ruth Vaughn. Though he did not have children of his own, Joe's legacy is lovingly carried forward by his numerous nephews, nieces, and grand nephews and nieces. To them, he was a father figure, a mentor, and a friend, always ready with a listening ear and an encouraging word. His caring nature extended beyond family, as evidenced by the special bond he shared with his long-time neighbor and caregiver, Melissa DiDomenico, to whom the family extends their deepest gratitude for her unwavering support and love. After graduating from Woestina High School, Joe answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Air Force. His time in service further shaped his character and sense of duty, experiences he cherished and spoke of with pride. Professionally, Joe was a master mason and bricklayer, dedicating years of his life to Gaylord Construction. His craftsmanship was impeccable, and his commitment to his work was only rivaled by his dedication to family and community. Joe's hands built more than just structures; they built memories, as he often freelanced masonry foundations and fireplaces for family and neighbors, leaving a lasting mark on the lives he touched. A devout communicant of St. Margaret of Cortona in Rotterdam Junction, Joe served his parish faithfully, contributing his skills to the Building and Grounds Committee. His faith guided him through both joyous and challenging times. Joe's passions extended to the world of sports, where he was an avid Yankees fan. His love for baseball was infectious, and he delighted in sharing this passion with his nieces and nephews, often taking them on trips to Cooperstown to revel in the history at the Baseball Hall of Fame. Weekends found him escaping to Ticonderoga and Saranac Lake, where he found peace and rejuvenation. Despite his slight stature, Joe had a voracious appetite for life and a heart full of love. He often reminisced about weighing the same as he did at his high school graduation, a fact he shared with pride and humor. His warmth, generosity, and genuine interest in the lives of those around him were hallmarks of his character, leaving an indelible impact on all who knew him. A funeral Mass will be held on April 13, 2026, at 10:30 AM at St. Margaret of Cortona in Rotterdam Junction, NY. Burial, with Military Honors, will be at St Mary's Cemetery, Amsterdam, NY. May we all find solace in the cherished memories of Joseph L. Augusta, a life well-lived, and a legacy of love that will continue to inspire and guide us. Rest in peace, dear Uncle Joe. You will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
