Joseph "Joe" Skorczewski, affectionately known as "Papa", "Papadoodle" or "Padre" to those close to him, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Born on October 17, 1943, in Elmira, New York, Joe was the beloved son of Mary and Stanley Skorczewski, who predeceased him. Alongside his parents, he is now reunited with his Aunt Anna, Uncle Tom Paluskiewicz, Cousin Tish, Cousin Greg Serdinow, Brother-in-law Scott Pedalty, Ex-wife Barbara Skorczewski and Son-in-law Randy Bielski. Joe’s journey through life was marked by his love for family and community. He was a devoted husband to his beloved Barbara Skorczewski and an extraordinary father to his daughters Dawn, Tess, and Joelle, who survive him and carry forward his legacy of humor, resilience, and integrity. Joe’s professional life began at age ten when he made two dollars a week — one for his mom and one for him. Starting his career with Bond Paper in Elmira, he made pizzas at night at Pudgies Pizza. He later moved his family to Maryland, where he enjoyed a prosperous career at SYSCO Food & Paper Company. His dedication and work ethic were respected by all who had the pleasure of working alongside him, as was his infectious enthusiasm — Big Joe was loved wherever he went, which often included more than a hundred miles a day. Despite his professional achievements, it was Joe’s personal interests that truly defined his spirit. Known for his love of life, Papa was an athlete in several sports —baseball, basketball, and football. He was a shockingly handsome man of few words — until he had something to say. His voice often filled the air at karaoke nights with Clementine or Sweet Caroline or duets with his beloved Tess. Joe was always ready with a joke to brighten someone’s day. He cherished his time with his daughters, whether it was to visit Tess in Los Angeles for acting classes or enjoying Sunday football with Maria's pizza. He and Joelle, his thumper, lived in the same place, laughing and dancing and planning for most of his life . When he was dying he was sure to make sure that his littlest baby was safe. He told Dawn that writing books — "that’s heroic", a comment she will cherish forever. A service to honor Joe’s remarkable life will be held on September 11, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Nativity, located at 20 E. Ridgely Road, Timonium, MD 21093. Friends and family are invited to gather and celebrate the vibrant life of a man who touched so many hearts. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Joe’s memory to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, as he believed in helping others and making the world a better place.
